Role Description

The Retail Sales Assistant is a full-time, on-site role based in Penang, Malaysia. This role involves welcoming customers, understanding their needs, and recommending suitable dim sum and snack products. Daily responsibilities include operating the point-of-sale system, handling cash and electronic payments, restocking shelves and freezers, and maintaining a clean, organized store environment.

The Retail Sales Assistant will respond to customer inquiries, manage product samples or tastings where applicable, and support promotional activities and displays. The role also includes basic inventory checks, reporting low stock levels, and collaborating with the team to ensure a smooth, friendly, and efficient shopping experience.

Qualifications

• Strong Customer Service and Customer Experience skills to assist shoppers and handle inquiries professionally.
• Effective Communication skills, including clear spoken Mandarin and/or relevant local languages, to interact with diverse customers.
• Retail Sales and Sales skills to promote products, upsell where appropriate, and support store revenue goals.
• Basic numeracy and cash-handling abilities, with familiarity using point-of-sale systems.
• Ability to stand for extended periods, lift and move products safely, and work in a cold environment around freezers.
• Reliability, punctuality, and the ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and public holidays as needed.
• Previous retail or F&B experience is an advantage, especially in grocery or frozen food products.
• Secondary school education or equivalent; further relevant certifications or training in retail or customer service are beneficial.
