The Senior Accountant will be responsible for overseeing end-to-end accounting activities, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, internal controls, and local regulations. This role requires strong technical accounting knowledge, hands-on experience in financial reporting, and the ability to communicate effectively in both Japanese and English to support business stakeholders across regions.

Description
Accounting & Reporting
- Ensure the existence, completeness, and accuracy of accounting data in line with group policies and standards (IFRS/US GAAP).
- Prepare and review journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting schedules (bank accounts, deferred freight, sundry accruals, inter-company, and income taxes).
- Support timely submission of monthly close data, commentary, and quarterly consolidation packages to corporate accounting.
- Assist with foreign exchange accounting, including quarterly hedge accounting tests.
- Prepare financial statements, management reports, and variance analyses to provide insights for decision-making.
Tax, Audit & Compliance
- Support tax accounting and reporting in coordination with global/regional HQ, local tax advisor, and authorities (income, consumption, payroll taxes, etc.).
- Coordinate statutory audits, ensuring timely and accurate responses to external and internal auditors.
- Assist in maintaining the internal control environment, including monitoring SAP Segregation of Duties (SoD) violations.
Operations & Business Support
- Work closely with Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Pricing, and Trade Spend functions to ensure smooth financial operations.
- Provide administrative support for payroll and employee benefits in collaboration with HR and Payroll Manager.
- Act as SAP SuperUser, providing guidance and support for finance system-related issues.
- Assist the non-Japanese Finance Director with Japanese finance-related documents and correspondence (e.g., insurance, pensions, banking).
Stakeholder Management
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams across Finance, HR, Tax, and Operations to support business goals.
- Serve as the main liaison for Japanese-speaking stakeholders, ensuring clear communication and accurate reporting.
Profile
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline.
- Professional qualification (ACCA, CPA, CA, CIMA, or equivalent) preferred.
- 3 to 5 years experience in accounting, audit, or finance, ideally with exposure to multinational or regional operations.
- Proficiency in Japanese (business level, spoken and written) and English is required.
- Strong knowledge of IFRS/US GAAP, financial reporting, tax compliance, and internal controls.
- Hands-on experience with ERP systems (SAP preferred) and advanced Excel skills.
- Prior exposure to FX accounting, payroll, and intercompany reconciliations is an advantage.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work in a fast-paced environment.
