Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior Broker to lead the placement and management of our commercial lines portfolio with a primary focus on lines like Property, Engineering, and Performance Bond classes, and more. This role is central to our growth strategy and requires a technically strong insurance professional who can manage end-to-end placement, build and maintain insurer relationships, and deliver tailored solutions for our commercial and industrial clients.
Key Responsibilities
Placement & Technical
• Lead the end-to-end placement of all commercial classes namely, Property (Fire, IAR, Industrial All Risks), Engineering (CAR, EAR, Machinery Breakdown), and Performance Bond / Guarantee Bond risks with insurers and reinsurers.
• Prepare and review risk presentations, slips, and placement submissions to achieve optimal terms, pricing, and coverage for clients.
• Negotiate policy terms, conditions, extensions, and endorsements with underwriters across the Malaysian insurance market.
• Analyse risk exposures, survey reports, and policy wordings to provide technically sound recommendations to clients and the broking team.
• Manage the renewal cycle proactively, ensuring timely and competitive renewals with clear market submissions.
Client & Market Engagement
• Serve as the primary technical point of contact for assigned commercial accounts, providing expert advice on coverage structure and claims implications.
• Build and strengthen relationships with key underwriters, insurers, and reinsurers to secure preferential access to capacity and competitive terms.
• Support business development efforts by preparing proposals, presentations, and tender responses for prospective clients.
• Collaborate with the business development team to identify cross-selling and upselling opportunities within the existing portfolio.
Operations & Compliance
• Ensure all placements comply with Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) regulations, Persatuan Insurans Am Malaysia (PIAM) guidelines, and internal compliance standards.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date records in the company's broking management system, including policy documentation, bordereaux, and client correspondence.
• Oversee debit note and credit note issuance, premium collection follow-ups, and reconciliation with insurers.
• Mentor and guide junior broking staff on technical placement matters, market practices, and professional development.
Qualifications & Requirements
• Minimum 5 years of experience in insurance broking or underwriting, with demonstrable expertise in Property, Engineering, and/or Bond classes.
• Degree in Business, Finance, Risk Management, or a related discipline.
• Professional qualifications such as ANZIIF (CIP), AMII, Cert CII, or Diploma in Insurance are highly preferred.
• Strong knowledge of the Malaysian general insurance market, including insurer appetite, rating approaches, and regulatory requirements.
• Proven ability to negotiate effectively with underwriters and deliver competitive placement outcomes.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Bahasa Malaysia.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with digital broking platforms or insurtech tools is an advantage.
• Detail-oriented with strong organisational and time management skills.
