About the role
As Senior Buyer – IMAS you'll drive regional sourcing strategies across a diverse spend portfolio, delivering value through smart category management, strong supplier partnerships, and effective negotiations. You'll work cross‑functionally across the region to optimise cost, manage supplier performance, and ensure sourcing activities are aligned with business needs, compliance standards, and ethical practices.
This is a hands‑on, regional role where you'll influence spending decisions, lead complex negotiations, and deliver real, measurable savings while continuously improving supplier performance.
Key responsibilities
- Responsible for strategic sourcing and supplier management across logistics and transportation services, covering road freight, sea freight, warehousing, and transport management.
- Procurement of goods and services across multiple categories as required by the Business on time, cost efficiently and meeting client's needs
- Track and analyse performance within each spend category and define budgetary impact on technology and/or country P&L
- Lead vendor selection and negotiation process for regional vendors
- Recruit and maintain suppliers who will provide high quality products and services at a better price while maintaining the highest code of ethics and conduct
- Negotiate contracts and maintain day to day relationships with suppliers, including establishing supplier performance measures, conducting regular reviews focused on achieving service performance and deal delivery
- Develop, agree and implement KPIs for suppliers, service levels and supplier management
- Provide local market intelligence for assigned portfolio including documented sourcing analyses, supply scenario comparisons and supplier research
- Analyze spend patterns across portfolio or category (s) for site and/or country and provide constructive challenge to stakeholders on their spending decisions
- Collaborate cross-functionally in the region to implement category-sourcing initiatives
- Perform end-to-end activities relevant to procurement of assigned Category including, but not limited to
- Negotiate complex requests for services
- Ensure categories are contracted in line with the sourcing strategy to avoid maverick buying
- Ensure master agreements are properly codified into local contracts for the region
- Prepare and issue purchase contracts and change notices
- Prepare and review contracts, bids, proposals and vendor agreements for legal correctness, price and acceptability of items to specifications
- Develop and utilize a system to evaluate vendor quotations with the appropriate negotiation and purchasing techniques to ensure quality, price, delivery and service
- Directly solve operational issues with vendors
- Review and resolve vendor claims and contracts for conformance to company policy
- Monitor procurement reporting systems to meet company requirements
- Capture real savings in the region
Qualifications and skills
- 7-10 years of related experience in the procurement of Indirect Materials & Services including but not limited to MRO, Spare Parts, Waste Management etc., along with some Factory-based exposure in categories such as Maintenance, Plant 3rd Party Services, Plant HR Services, Temporary Labour etc.
- Strong Matrix management & Negotiation skills
- Ability to multi-task and work in a highly demanding and fast paced environment; must be comfortable working in a very hands-on role as part of a lean team
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a project management background
- Leading and Managing Change – a fast learner who rapidly moves up the learning curve
- Someone who embraces change and is willing to adapt and take on new responsibilities
- Delivery of Sustainable Results – strong results-oriented mentality with a continuous cost focus; drives cost/value initiatives
- Must be able to travel within Malaysia (around 20%)
