Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design, analysis, and coordination of structural works with a strong focus on steel and composite structures.
- Prepare and review structural calculations, design reports, and detailed drawings for steel structures.
- Develop efficient and safe structural systems, including frames, trusses, platforms, and industrial structures.
- Perform connection design and review fabrication and erection considerations.
- Review and approve shop drawings, fabrication drawings, and method statements for steel works.
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams (civil, architectural, geotechnical, M&E) to ensure seamless design integration.
- Provide technical support during construction, including site inspections and resolution of design-related issues.
- Liaise with clients, consultants, fabricators, contractors, and authorities on structural and steel-related matters.
- Conduct design reviews, value engineering, and optimisation to achieve cost-effective solutions.
- Supervise, guide, and mentor junior engineers and structural designers.
- Ensure all deliverables comply with relevant codes, standards, safety requirements, and project timelines.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering; Master's degree is an advantage.
- Registered with the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM); Professional Engineer (Ir.) status preferred.
- Minimum 710 years of relevant experience in structural engineering, with strong exposure to steel structures.
- In-depth knowledge of steel design codes and standards (e.g. BS, Eurocode, AISC).
- Proficient in structural analysis and design software.
- Good understanding of steel fabrication, erection, and constructability considerations.
- Strong analytical, coordination, and problem-solving skills.
- Able to work independently and lead technical tasks across multiple projects.
- Excellent communication and technical reporting skills.
