About the role We are seeking a talented and experienced Senior COBOL Developer to join our dynamic team at HCL Technologies Malaysia SDN BHD. As a Senior COBOL Developer, you will play a crucial role in the development and maintenance of mission-critical business applications. This is a full-time position based in Kuala Lumpur.
What you'll be doing • Designing, developing, and maintaining COBOL-based applications and systems to support the business • Analysing and troubleshooting complex COBOL code to identify and resolve issues • Support business operations on their areas by improving or performing systems configurations or by developing new features of Java applications. • Ensure the performance, quality and responsiveness of applications by monitoring, analyzing and reports root cause of system/ production disruption and include recommendations to prevent the reoccurrence of glitches, defects & bugs. • Help to maintain/improve code quality as well as automation especially on the testing area. • Analyze within their IT lines the current technology trends and look for opportunities to design new technology solutions that would maximize the company's productivity and improve business operations. • Enrich procedures & documentation of deliverables. Keep documentation and processes around production support as well development cycle up to date and at his best possible efficiency. • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to understand business requirements and translate them into technical solutions • Implementing best practices in software development, including code documentation, testing, and deployment • Providing technical guidance and mentoring to more junior developers • Staying up-to-date with the latest COBOL technologies and industry trends
What we're looking for • Bachelor's or Master degree in information technology and/or other demonstrated learning path (eg. Bootcamp) can be accepted. • Minimum 7 years of proven experience in COBOL development, with a strong understanding of COBOL syntax, data structures, and programming techniques • Proficiency in COBOL, JCL, CICS, and DB2 as well as TSO. • Understanding of mainframe technologies and environments (Batch processes versus Online) • Understanding of legacy system modernization techniques • Extensive experience in designing, developing, and maintaining enterprise-level COBOL applications • Understanding of associated development processes – Testing, Code Quality and Design. • Proficiency in SQL. • RTC tool understanding (IBM) is a nice to have • Methodologies – Waterfall & Agile are accepted. • Experience in supporting production to business users would be added advantage. • Work experience in Finance, banking or insurance industry is preferred. •Certification – ITIL is a PLUS. • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with stakeholders at all levels • Commitment to continuous learning and a passion for staying up-to-date with the latest technologies and industry trends
