Job Summary
The Senior Costing Executive is responsible for managing product costing, pricing, gross profit margins, and commercial cost analysis across the company's portfolio.
This role will work closely with Finance, Purchasing, Sales, Management, and brand principals to ensure product costs are accurately maintained, selling prices remain commercially viable, and agreed pricing, rebates, and commercial terms are properly implemented.
The ideal candidate should have a strong accounting background, good commercial awareness, and the confidence to communicate with suppliers and principals on matters relating to pricing and cost.
Key Responsibilities
Product Costing & Gross Profit
- Maintain and review accurate costing for all products.
- Monitor gross profit margins by product, brand, customer, and sales channel.
- Analyse changes in supplier cost, freight, duties, exchange rates, and other landed costs.
- Identify products with declining or insufficient margins and highlight them to Management.
- Recommend pricing adjustments where required to protect company profitability.
- Ensure updated costs and selling prices are accurately reflected in the company system.
Pricing & Commercial Analysis
- Review selling prices and margin structures to ensure they remain commercially sustainable.
- Conduct pricing and margin analysis for new products, promotions, special deals, and customer quotations.
- Support Management and Sales with pricing simulations and profitability analysis.
- Review the financial impact of discounts, promotions, rebates, and commercial arrangements.
- Provide recommendations based on cost, margin, and profitability.
Principal & Supplier Coordination
- Liaise with brand principals and suppliers regarding pricing, cost changes, rebates, discounts, and commercial terms.
- Review supplier price lists and ensure agreed pricing is correctly implemented.
- Follow up on discrepancies relating to supplier invoices, pricing, rebates, and credit notes.
- Maintain proper records of pricing agreements, rebates, incentives, and commercial arrangements.
- Support Management during pricing and commercial discussions with principals.
Contract & Agreement Review
- Review principal and supplier agreements relating to pricing, rebates, discounts, and commercial commitments.
- Ensure agreed commercial terms are properly recorded and tracked.
- Monitor rebates, marketing support, incentives, and other commercial benefits due to the company.
- Highlight any discrepancies between agreed terms and actual invoicing or charges.
Reporting & Cost Analysis
- Prepare regular costing, margin, and gross profit reports for Management.
- Analyse profitability by SKU, brand, customer, and channel.
- Monitor cost variances and investigate significant differences.
- Provide insights on margin trends, underperforming products, and cost movements.
- Assist Management with commercial and pricing decisions.
Finance & Inventory Coordination
- Work closely with Finance to ensure proper cost recognition and accounting treatment.
- Support reconciliation of supplier invoices, credit notes, rebates, and cost adjustments.
- Review inventory costing and assist with identifying costing discrepancies.
- Support month-end reporting related to inventory cost and gross profit.
- Coordinate with Purchasing and Operations on stock costing and cost-related matters.
Requirements
- Degree or Diploma in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Candidates with formal Accounting studies or qualifications are strongly preferred.
- Minimum 3–5 years of relevant experience in costing, accounting, commercial finance, pricing, or a related role.
- Strong understanding of: Product costing, Gross profit and margin analysis, Inventory costing, Pricing structures, Basic accounting principles
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
- Experience working with ERP or accounting systems is preferred.
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Able to communicate confidently with internal teams, suppliers, and principals.
- Commercially minded and comfortable providing recommendations to Management.
Preferred Experience
Experience within FMCG, wine & spirits, distribution, trading, retail, import/export, food & beverage, or consumer goods would be an advantage.
