Senior DBA Engineer

ROLE OVERVIEW

We are seeking a highly skilled and proactive Database Administrator (DBA) to manage and optimize enterprise database platforms supporting missioncritical applications. This role involves overseeing more than 100 production databases across hybrid environments, ensuring performance, availability, scalability, and security. The DBA will perform proactive monitoring, performance tuning, patching, and upgrades, while collaborating with crossfunctional teams on database design, capacity planning, and migration projects- including transitions from legacy systems. The position requires strong technical expertise, analytical problemsolving, and flexibility to support offhours operations when required.

The role will also be expected to contribute to technical documentation and participate in project planning and implementation.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Database management: Administer, maintain, and support diverse RDBMS and NoSQL platforms in production environments.
2. Performance monitoring: Track database health, proactively identify issues, and implement corrective actions.
3. Maintenance operations: Execute backups, restores, and routine health checks to ensure data integrity.
4. Replication & clustering: Configure and maintain HA/DR solutions to meet business continuity objectives.
5. Troubleshooting: Diagnose abnormal behaviors, resolve bottlenecks, and ensure SLA compliance.
6. SQL optimization: Perform query tuning and collaborate with application teams to enhance efficiency.
7. Operational support: Provide daily support via ticketing systems and incident response.
8. Migration projects: Plan and execute upgrades, platform transitions, and crossversion migrations.
9. Automation: Develop and maintain scripts to streamline database operations.
10. Collaboration: Partner with developers, vendors, and analysts on design and implementation.
11. Capacity planning: Forecast growth, recommend resource scaling, and optimize utilization.
12. Documentation: Prepare and maintain technical runbooks, procedures, and knowledge bases.

WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO BE SUCCESSFUL

Qualifications

1. Bachelor's Degree, Post Graduate Diploma, or Professional Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related discipline.
2. Certifications in RDBMS (e.g., Oracle, MySQL, Microsoft SQL Server) or NoSQL platforms (MongoDB, Cassandra) to validate expertise in database administration and operations.
3. Cloud certifications including AWS Certified SysOps Administrator or equivalent cloud credentials will be an added advantage).

Work Experience

1. 3–7 years of handson experience managing production databases in enterprise or financial environments.
2. Experience working in 24x7 operations environments, including incident response and SLA adherence.
3. Experience planning and executing database upgrades, platform transitions, and legacy system migrations.
4. Proven experience with AWS RDS, EC2, and cloudnative database services.

Skills & Competencies

1. Strong knowledge of RDBMS concepts and database administration best practices.
2. Handson experience with MySQL, Oracle/Tibero, MSSQL, PostgreSQL
3. Experience with NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB) and cloud environments (AWS primarily) will be an added advantage.
4. Proficiency in SQL, query optimization, and troubleshooting.
5. Expertise in backup, restore, replication, and clustering.
6. Strong Linux commandline and shell scripting skills.
7. Knowledge of Python or PowerShell will be an added advantage.
8. Strong analytical, problemsolving, and communication skills.
9. Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and support offhours operations.
