The Senior Executive – Environmental & Dangerous Goods (DG) Specialist is responsible for ensuring compliance with environmental legislation, international standards, and Company policies while supporting the implementation of sustainable environmental management practices across Port of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP).
The role oversees environmental compliance programe, waste management initiatives, dangerous goods (DG) cargo approval processes, ISO 14001 Environmental Management System implementation, environmental risk assessments, and sustainability initiatives to ensure safe and environmentally responsible port operations.
The incumbent will work closely with internal stakeholders, regulatory authorities, customers, and operational teams to minimize environmental risks, promote continuous improvement, and strengthen PTP's commitment towards Green Port initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
1. Environmental Compliance & Regulatory Management
- Ensure compliance with all applicable environmental legislation, statutory regulations and Company environmental policies.
- Monitor environmental performance and recommend corrective actions where necessary.
- Coordinate environmental reporting and submission to regulatory authorities.
- Conduct compliance inspections and environmental audits.
- Support regulatory inspections and external audits.
2. Environmental Management System (ISO 14001)
- Support implementation and continual improvement of the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System.
- Coordinate internal and external ISO audits.
- Monitor environmental objectives and key performance indicators.
- Ensure documentation complies with ISO requirements.
- Coordinate management review inputs and improvement plans.
3. Environmental Risk Management
- Conduct environmental risk assessments.
- Identify environmental hazards and operational impacts.
- Develop mitigation strategies.
- Monitor environmental controls.
- Maintain environmental risk registers.
- Support incident investigations involving environmental matters.
4. Waste Management
- Manage scheduled waste programmes.
- Monitor general waste management activities.
- Coordinate licensed waste contractors.
- Ensure proper waste segregation and disposal.
- Monitor recycling initiatives.
- Improve waste reduction performance across the port.
5. Dangerous Goods (DG) Management
- Review and approve Dangerous Goods cargo in accordance with Johor Port By-Laws, IMDG Code and applicable regulations.
- Ensure DG cargo acceptance complies with safety requirements.
- Provide technical guidance on DG handling.
- Monitor DG storage and dwell time.
- Support emergency preparedness involving dangerous goods.
6. Environmental Monitoring & Sustainability
- Monitor environmental quality programmes.
- Coordinate water, air and noise monitoring.
- Support carbon reduction initiatives.
- Assist Green Port implementation programmes.
- Promote environmental sustainability practices throughout PTP.
7. Environmental Awareness & Training
- Conduct environmental awareness programmes.
- Deliver toolbox talks and environmental briefings.
- Promote environmental culture across departments.
- Support sustainability campaigns and engagement activities.
8. Incident Investigation
- Participate in environmental incident investigations.
- Identify root causes.
- Recommend preventive actions.
- Monitor implementation of corrective actions.
9. Cross Functional Support
- Support Safety & Health Section initiatives.
- Participate in corporate HSSES programmes.
- Support emergency response exercises.
- Assist operational departments on environmental matters.
10. Information Security & Governance
- Ensure compliance with PTP Information Security policies.
- Protect confidential operational and environmental information.
- Ensure proper governance of environmental documentation and records.
Requirements
1. Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Occupational Safety & Health, Chemical Engineering or related discipline.
- Professional certification in Environmental Management, ISO 14001 Lead Auditor, NEBOSH Environmental, or equivalent is an added advantage.
2. Experience
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in environmental management, environmental compliance or dangerous goods management.
- Experience within ports, logistics, shipping, manufacturing, petrochemical or heavy industries is highly preferred.
- Hands-on experience managing ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems.
- Experience liaising with regulatory authorities.
- Exposure to dangerous goods regulations and IMDG Code will be an added advantage.
