Job Description

We are representing a leading Australian engineering consultancy expanding its regional design center in Malaysia. This brand-new pioneer team will directly support major Australian transmission, substation, and mission-critical Data Center projects.

If you are a talented High Voltage (HV) Design Engineer looking for direct exposure to Australian power standards without leaving Malaysia, this is a prime opportunity to step in as a pioneer member.

Key Responsibilities
  • Primary HV Substation Design: Lead technical solutions and detailed primary design deliverables for high-voltage substations (132kV to 330kV+), including AIS/GIS switchgear, transformers, busbars, and surge arresters.
  • Data Center Focus: Develop and optimize HV substation and critical power intake designs specifically tailored to mission-critical Data Center infrastructure.
  • Core Engineering Calculations: Perform busbar sizing, short-circuit force calculations, earthing design, lightning protection, and safety clearance studies.
  • Cross-Discipline Coordination: Work closely with civil, structural, and secondary engineering teams to deliver unified design packages.
  • Technical Interface: Engage directly with Australian project managers, clients, and network service providers to resolve design challenges and ensure compliance.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering (recognized by BEM / IEM or equivalent).
  • Language Proficiency: Fluent written and spoken English is essential, as all project communication, documentation, and stakeholder meetings are in English. (Mandarin/Malay fluency is not required).
  • Experience: Minimum 6+ years of hands-on primary HV substation design experience within engineering consultancies.
  • Domain Expertise: Must have direct design experience in HV/EHV substations for Data Center projects or heavy utility/industrial power intake systems.
  • Software: Proficient with CAD software (AutoCAD, MicroStation, or Revit) and industry-standard power calculation tools.
  • Standards Awareness: Knowledge of AS/NZS, IEC, or equivalent international grid/substation design frameworks.
  • Professional Registration: PEPC (Professional Engineer with Practising Certificate) or Chartered status (or working towards it) is highly advantageous.

Benefits

  • Pioneer Team Growth: Be one of the first senior hires in Malaysia with immediate career advancement potential as the team expands.
  • Australian Market Exposure: Work on landmark, high-value energy and mission-critical data center builds in Australia.
  • Flexible Work Model: Enjoy a Work-From-Home setup initially, transitioning into a modern local office once established.
  • Competitive Compensation: Attractive salary package matching international consultancy standards.
