Senior Legal Counsel

The candidate should have all relevant experience as a Senior Legal Counsel, good years of diverse legal experience, portray leadership skills and the ability to take accountability, ownership to materialize visions alongside creating impactful change to the organization and customers.

Job Description

• Ability to work with internal customers to provide legal advice that is reliable , fast and useful, also independently.
• To delve deeply into the applicable laws, Acts and BNM regulations amongst others
• Reviews, drafts and negotiates contracts and legal documents to protect the company's interests and reduce exposure to legal, financial or operational risk.
• Identifies, assesses and escalates material legal risks early, with practical recommendations and mitigation strategies
• Manages disputes, litigation matters and external solicitors effectively to safeguard the company's position and achieve optimal outcomes.
• Builds trusted relationships with internal stakeholders by providing responsive, solution-oriented legal support aligned with business priorities.
• Supports the development, review and implementation of legal policies, procedures and governance standards to ensure consistency and control.
• Keeps abreast of legal and regulatory developments and shares relevant updates with stakeholders to improve awareness and compliance.

Qualification / Requirement

• Bachelor's Degree in Law (LLB) from a recognized university.
• Admitted as an Advocate & Solicitor, Barrister-at-Law, or equivalent legal qualification.
• Possession of a Master's Degree in Law (LLM) or relevant professional certifications will be an added advantage.
• 8 - 10 years of legal experience, preferably within Insurance, Takaful, Banking, or Financial Services
• Strong knowledge of BNM regulations, FSA, IFSA, and financial services regulatory frameworks
• Extensive experience in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial contracts
• Proven track record in legal advisory, dispute management, and regulatory matters
• Strong stakeholder management and business partnering capabilities
• Ability to lead complex legal matters while balancing risk and commercial objectives
• Demonstrated leadership, accountability, and ability to drive impactful business outcomes
• Experience engaging with regulators, senior management, and external counsel
