About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Technical Lead – Integral Life / Life Asia to join our technology team in Malaysia. The successful candidate will lead a team of developers while also contributing as an individual technical contributor across BAU and project initiatives.

The role requires strong hands-on experience in Integral Life / Life Asia, COBOL and AS400/iSeries environments, along with proven experience in application development, production support, stakeholder management, and technical team leadership.

You will work closely with business and technology stakeholders to understand requirements, assess technical impacts, design practical solutions, and ensure high-quality delivery of life insurance applications.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage a team of developers supporting multiple BAU and project initiatives.
• Provide technical leadership, coaching, mentoring and performance guidance to team members.
• Work closely with reporting managers to establish team objectives, expectations and KPIs.
• Participate in resource planning, capacity planning and budgeting activities.
• Lead Integral Life / Life Asia application requirement gathering, impact analysis, solution design and development.
• Perform hands-on COBOL development, unit testing, UAT support and deployment activities.
• Support UAT activities, including UAT End-of-Day (EOD) batch support where required.
• Manage BAU enhancements, projects, system upgrades, maintenance and production support.
• Ensure solutions are delivered according to agreed scope, timeline, quality and business requirements.
• Analyze technical impacts across applications and interfacing systems.
• Investigate and support resolution of production incidents and problem tickets within agreed SLAs.
• Ensure adherence to established SDLC, development, security, compliance and technology standards.
• Provide regular management updates on application, project and production-support activities.
• Collaborate with Business Analysts, Project Managers, System Owners, Tribe Leads, Technology teams and other internal stakeholders.
• Coordinate effectively with external service providers and business partners.
• Identify opportunities for system improvements and propose practical technical solutions.
• Actively contribute to knowledge sharing, technical discussions and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Support the development of junior team members through coaching and mentoring.
• Ensure BAU issues and application incidents are resolved within agreed service levels.
• Contribute to wider Technology initiatives and organizational goals.

Required Skills & Experience

Must Have:

• Bachelor's Degree in IT, Computer Science, Engineering or a related discipline.
• Minimum 10 years of experience in application development within the Life Insurance domain.
• Strong hands-on experience with Integral Life and/or Life Asia.
• Strong COBOL development experience.
• Working experience with AS400 / IBM i / iSeries environments.
• Experience with SQL development.
• Knowledge of Control Language (CL/CL400).
• Experience with SMART/400 or similar AS400 development tools.
• Proven experience leading and supervising a technical development team.
• Experience across the full application development lifecycle
