Purpose of Job
The Senior Communications Officer supports the development and delivery of strategic communications and campaigns for WWF-Malaysia's Sabah Landscapes Programme (SLP). The role enhances programme visibility, strengthens stakeholder engagement, and builds public understanding of conservation outcomes in Sabah. The incumbent contributes to the design, implementation, and coordination of communications strategies and products that showcase conservation impact across key landscapes. The role ensures alignment with WWF-Malaysia's Roadmap 2030, programme strategies, and wider regional communications efforts across the WWF network. As part of the Conservation Department, the role supports the achievement of WWFMalaysia's Strategy 20212030 and the Global Biodiversity Framework (or its updated versions).
Key Responsibilities and Outputs
This role encompasses both the planning and hands-on execution of communications and campaign activities for the Sabah Landscapes Programme.
1. Strategic Communications Planning and Delivery
- Plan and implement communications and campaign activities for key components of the Sabah Landscapes Programme (SLP), covering Tabin, TawauKunak, statewide initiatives, and regional efforts within the network.
- Deliver and monitor the SLP Communications Workplan as outlined in the Sabah Landscapes Programme Strategy 2.0.
- Produce and track effective, measurable communications outputs that contribute strategically to programme objectives.
- Develop and implement targeted communication activities for internal and external audiences, working closely with the Director of Communications and Marketing as required.
2. Content Development and Brand Stewardship
- Lead and carry out the development and production of audiencespecific content across multiple platforms, including fact sheets, brochures, posters, social media content, and other multimedia materials that highlight programme outcomes and progress.
- Maintain and regularly update online content for SLP on WWFMalaysia's website, social channels, and the SLP microsite.
- Provide firstlevel editing and support layout reviews of programme reports and documents, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and adherence to WWF branding standards.
3. Media and Stakeholder Engagement
- Coordinate and execute the programme's media engagement plan using online platforms, traditional media, and other channels to maximise reach and impact.
- Coordinate and facilitate media trips and site visits for donors, partners, and stakeholders in collaboration with SLP managers and team leads.
- Support and help deliver branding and communications training for programme colleagues to strengthen messaging consistency across the programme.
4. Events, Campaigns and Wider Sabah Office Support
- Support and help organise communications and campaign events for key programme components.
- Lead and implement communicationsrelated events that support wider Sabah office initiatives beyond SLP.
- Work closely with WWFMalaysia's Multimedia, Fundraising, Corporate Communications, and Marketing teams to ensure cohesive planning and smooth execution.
Specifications
1. Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in mass communication, marketing, journalism, development communication, or a related field.
- Three to five years of professional experience in communications, public relations, journalism, or development communication.
2. Language Skills
- Excellent written and spoken proficiency in English and Bahasa Malaysia.
- Additional language proficiency is an advantage.
3. Competencies and Skills
- Strong organisational, analytical, and project coordination skills; creative, responsive, detailoriented, and able to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Proficient in digital communication tools, including social media management platforms, Canva/Adobe Suite, and basic photo/video editing.
- Photography and videography skills for field documentation.
- Ability to use AIpowered tools for content creation, research, and workflow efficiency.
- Foundational understanding of social media analytics and SEO, and ability to track and report on communication performance metrics (e.g., engagement, media coverage).
4. Knowledge
- General understanding of WWFMalaysia's work, WWF Roadmap 2030, and principles of environmental and conservation communication.
- Awareness of current conservation and environmental issues in Malaysia and the region.
5. Personal Attributes

- Willing to travel within Sabah's landscapes (Tabin and TawauKunak), statewide, and occasionally for regional WWF network engagements, if required.

Salary Range
RM3,800 - RM4,300
