Nature and Scope
Pressure Systems Engineer (along with the rest of the Pressure Systems, MI group and AOTS), will provide on-going Pressure Systems 2nd level support for all manufacturing facilities as a subject matter expert such as Industrial Gases Air Separation Unit (ASU), VSA, PSA, HPN, Hydrogen), Liquid Bulk etc owned / operated by AP and Joint Venture (JV).
Responsibilities include Operating Plant equipment inspection, troubleshooting, repair, maintenance, design engineering, materials selection, fabrication and installation of pressurized systems.
Traveling within Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and occasionally in Asia is required (50-60%).
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Troubleshoots Pressure System issues in Operating plants and provides technical solutions for long term, safe, reliable and economical operations.
- Inspect Pressure Systems equipment (Pressure Vessels, Columns, Heat Exchangers, Fired Heaters, Reformers, Storage Tanks, Piping, Pipelines etc) during normal operation / outage, evaluate result, develop and provide technical solution / repair procedure and inspection plan, document repair and inspection
- Develop repair procedures and inspection plan and provide technical guidance to plant operation / maintenance regarding inspection types and methods.
- Lead Pressure System equipment / piping repair and modification
- Lead / participate, perform incident investigation and Root Cause Analysis of incidents
- Identify systemwide issues, develop solutions / improvement working with technical community / Operational Excellence, share with Plants and Engineers, implement solution / improvements, coordinate / lead and track until completion
- Perform technical and inspection audits, including MI and pipeline audit and so on.
- Technical review and approval of Equipment modifications using Management of Change process
- Maintain expertise in existing and developing technologies associated with the inspection of pressurized systems (ex: Shear wave, Eddy Current)
- Development and refreshing Pressure System Mechanical Integrity Program, Logbook and Maintenance Plan.
- Basic design engineering of Pressure Systems including development of technical specifications, review of strength calculation and fabrication drawings.
- Develop inspection / test plans for fabrication of Pressure System equipment / Pipelines. Inspect during fabrication / installation.
- Assistant of RBI if need
- Participate in inspectors and contractor selection and technically audit / evaluate workshops, fabricators, vendors, contractors and inspectors
- Train Plant / Maintenance personnel on pressure system maintenance / inspection
- Input for development and maintenance of Pressure System standards, procedures, best practices, inspection contracts and contractor selection.
- Participate at professional association meetings to determine best practices being used in the industry and apply them to our pressure systems
- Any other duties as assigned
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Minimum 5 years experience in pressure systems / mechanical integrity within industrial gas, chemical, refinery, petrochemical or oil & gas plants.
- Handson exposure to pressure vessels, heat exchangers, fired heaters, storage tanks, piping and pipelines.
- Experience in inspection, troubleshooting, repair support, and maintenance of pressure system equipment.
- Working knowledge of ASME (VIII/B31.3), API (510/570/579), ANSI and local statutory requirements (DOSH/FMA/CF/SSI).
- Familiar with NDT methods (UT/PAUT/RT/MT/VT/MFL/ECT) and equipment failure mechanisms.
- Willing to travel across Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand (up to 5060%), including occasional longer assignments (12 weeks).
- Proficient in English with strong coordination and communication skills.
- Preferred: API 510 certification, materials engineering knowledge, welding/metallurgy familiarity.
