The
Senior Project Engineer (MEP) is responsible for planning, coordinating, and supervising Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) works for data center construction projects. The role ensures MEP systems such as power distribution, cooling systems, fire protection, and building services are delivered according to design, quality standards, safety requirements, and project schedule.
The position works closely with the Project Manager, consultants, contractors, and commissioning teams to ensure successful delivery of mission-critical infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
Project Coordination & Delivery
- Manage and coordinate all MEP construction activities on-site.
- Ensure MEP works are executed according to approved drawings, specifications, and project schedule.
- Coordinate closely with CSA (Civil, Structural, Architectural) teams to resolve interface issues.
- Monitor subcontractor performance, productivity, and compliance with project requirements.
- Assist the Project Manager in tracking project progress, risks, and milestones.
Technical Oversight
- Review MEP shop drawings, method statements, and material submissions.
- Ensure compliance with data center design standards and client requirements.
- Provide technical guidance for installation of critical systems including:
- Electrical power systems (MV/LV distribution, UPS, generators)
- Cooling systems (CRAC/CRAH, chillers, cooling towers)
- Fire protection and detection systems
- BMS/DCIM integration
- Plumbing and drainage systems
Quality & Compliance
- Ensure works comply with QA/QC procedures and project specifications.
- Conduct site inspections and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
- Support inspections with consultants and client representatives.
Planning & Scheduling
- Assist in developing MEP construction schedules and work sequencing.
- Track installation progress against baseline schedules.
- Identify delays and implement recovery plans.
Testing & Commissioning
- Coordinate MEP testing and commissioning activities with contractors and commissioning teams.
- Support Integrated Systems Testing (IST) and ensure readiness of systems.
- Ensure proper documentation and completion of commissioning checklists.
Health, Safety & Environment
- Ensure all MEP works comply with site HSE policies and safety standards.
- Promote safe work practices among subcontractors and site teams.
Documentation & Reporting
- Prepare weekly progress reports, technical reports, and issue logs.
- Maintain proper records for RFIs, inspections, testing, and commissioning documentation.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Building Services Engineering.
- Minimum 7–10 years of experience in MEP construction.
- At least 3–5 years of experience in data center or mission-critical facilities preferred.
- Strong knowledge of data center infrastructure systems.
- Experience managing MEP subcontractors and site teams.
- Ability to review technical drawings, shop drawings, and specifications.
- Familiarity with testing and commissioning processes for mission-critical systems.
- Good knowledge of project management tools and construction scheduling.
- Strong communication and coordination skills.
