Role Overview
As a Tax Specialist, you will be responsible for managing and ensuring compliance with Malaysian tax regulations across all business operations. This role is critical as the primary local tax resource, supporting day-to-day operational tax matters while coordinating closely with the regional/HQ tax team in Indonesia. You will ensure all tax processes are aligned with local regulations, particularly in areas such as distribution, logistics, and employee-related taxation.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with all Malaysian tax regulations, including corporate tax, SST, withholding tax, and other statutory requirements.
- Handle tax filings, submissions, and liaise with relevant authorities such as Lembaga Hasil Dalam Negeri Malaysia (LHDN) and Royal Malaysian Customs Department.
- Act as the main point of contact for local tax matters, supporting internal stakeholders and coordinating with HQ tax teams in Indonesia.
- Review and ensure proper tax treatment for business activities, especially in distribution, logistics, and supply chain operations.
- Support tax implications related to employee management, including payroll tax, benefits-in-kind (BIK), and expatriate tax matters.
- Monitor updates in Malaysian tax laws and assess their impact on the business.
- Assist in tax audits, investigations, and queries from authorities.
- Ensure proper documentation and maintenance of tax records in compliance with statutory requirements.
- Collaborate with Finance, HR, and Operations teams to ensure tax compliance across all processes.
- Support tax planning initiatives and identify opportunities for tax efficiency while ensuring compliance.
Ideal Candidate Profile
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, or related field; professional qualification (e.g., ACCA, CPA, CTIM) is an advantage.
- 4–7 years of relevant experience in Malaysian taxation, preferably in FMCG, distribution, or logistics industries.
- Strong knowledge of Malaysian tax frameworks including corporate tax, SST, withholding tax, and employee taxation.
- Hands-on experience dealing with LHDN and Customs matters, including audits and submissions.
- Familiarity with operational tax matters across distribution, logistics, and employee management.
- Ability to work independently as the key local tax representative.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Good communication skills with the ability to collaborate with regional teams.
