Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Leadership and Program Oversight (30%)

  • Lead, mentor, and supervise trade compliance analysts to ensure timely, accurate, and compliant execution of trade screening and classification activities
  • Act as the subject matter expert and principal point of contact for escalations regarding trade compliance decisions
  • Partner with Legal, Supply Chain, Sales, and other business units to proactively identify and mitigate trade compliance risks across the global enterprise
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the effectiveness of trade compliance workflows and system integrations

Restricted Party Screening and Transaction Oversight (40%)

  • Oversee end-to-end screening of transactions, ensuring restricted party screening and product classifications are completed accurately and efficiently
  • Conduct and approve reviews of End Use Certificates, diversion risks, and high-risk end-use/end-user activities, providing final sign-off on escalated cases
  • Supervise and enhance supplier screening processes in coordination with the procurement team
  • Prepare and present periodic trade compliance metrics and high-risk transaction reports to executive leadership

Product Classification and Jurisdiction (20%)

  • Manage export classification and jurisdiction determinations, including EAR, and local ECCN assignments
  • Develop and maintain robust procedures for product classification and licensing requirement identification
  • Provide guidance to engineering and product management teams on trade classification requirements for new and existing products

Compliance Strategy & Continuous Improvement (10%)

  • Support audits, internal assessments, and training programs to strengthen organizational trade compliance awareness and readiness
  • Collaborate on the development and rollout of a global classification and licensing program across Coherent
  • Keep abreast of regulatory changes and update internal policies accordingly

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field required
  • 5+ years of trade compliance experience in a multinational corporation, including 2+ years in a supervisory or lead role
  • 3+ years experience working in an U.S. headquartered, global corporation
  • Strong working knowledge of export laws and regulations including Export Administration Regulations (EAR), and sanctions administered by the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC)

Skills

  • Proven leadership and team development capabilities
  • In-depth expertise in international trade regulations and screening systems, including EAR
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, multi-tasking, and organizational skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, with experience delivering presentations to senior leadership
  • Proficiency in Oracle or similar ERP systems, Microsoft Office, and denied party screening tools
  • Ability to maintain flexibility in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment
  • Customer service oriented with both internal and external customers
  • Understanding of each country and U.S. government licensing systems
  • ISO 9001, internal audit, or quality systems experience a plus
