The Shift Officer, Aircraft Turnaround Coordinator is responsible for overseeing end-to-end freighter aircraft turnaround operations to ensure safe, compliant, and on-time departures.
This role acts as the operational lead during assigned shifts, coordinating ground handling, cargo activities, aircraft servicing, and stakeholder communication. The incumbent ensures strict compliance with aviation safety standards, regulatory requirements, and company SOPs while managing manpower, equipment, and operational performance on the ground.
The role requires strong decision-making skills, operational awareness, and the ability to manage irregular operations (IROPs) in a fast-paced airport environment.
- Aircraft & Cargo Operations
- Oversee freighter aircraft turnaround activities including arrival, unloading, loading, and departure.
- Coordinate aircraft parking bay allocation, ground handling activities, cargo build-up/breakdown, and ULD movements.
- Ensure compliance with load control instructions, weight & balance requirements, and approved load plans.
- Monitor aircraft servicing activities to meet on-time performance (OTP) targets.
- Ensure readiness of all operational requirements prior to aircraft departure.
- Safety & Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure operations comply with ICAO, IATA, GCAA/CAA, airport authority regulations, and company SOPs.
- Monitor ramp safety procedures, aircraft safety zones, and proper usage of Ground Support Equipment (GSE).
- Oversee Dangerous Goods (DG) handling in accordance with IATA DGR requirements.
- Act as first responder during operational incidents, emergencies, or irregular operations (IROPs).
- Promote a strong safety culture and report hazards or non-compliance immediately.
- Shift & Resource Management
- Manage manpower deployment, equipment allocation, and GSE utilization during assigned shifts.
- Coordinate closely with maintenance, flight crew, load control, OCC, warehouse, and security teams.
- Monitor shift performance metrics including on-time departure, loading accuracy, and safety KPIs.
- Resolve operational bottlenecks to minimize delays and disruptions.
- Communication & Stakeholder Coordination
- Serve as the primary operational point of contact for freighter aircraft during the assigned shift.
- Liaise with flight crew, OCC, customs, security, warehouse, and ground handling agents.
- Communicate delays, constraints, and disruptions promptly to relevant stakeholders.
- Ensure alignment across all parties to achieve safe and timely aircraft turnaround.
- Documentation & Reporting
- Ensure accurate preparation and verification of flight files, load sheets, NOTOCs, and cargo documentation.
- Maintain detailed shift logs including operational highlights and issues.
- Submit operational, safety, delay, and incident reports through designated reporting systems.
- Ensure compliance documentation is properly filed and audit-ready
Requirements
Education & Certification Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Aviation Management, Logistics, Supply Chain, or related field. Valid Dangerous Goods (DG) Category 6 certification (preferred). Load Control or Weight & Balance certification (advantage). Experience Minimum 3-5 years of experience in ramp operations, cargo operations, ground handling, or aircraft turnaround coordination. Experience handling freighter aircraft operations is preferred. Exposure to airport operational control center (OCC) coordination is an advantage. Technical Knowledge- Strong understanding of aircraft turnaround processes.
- Knowledge of weight & balance principles and load control procedures.
- Familiarity with IATA DGR requirements.
- Understanding of aviation regulatory requirements (ICAO, IATA, CAA regulations).
- Knowledge of ramp safety standards and GSE operations.
