Software Engineer (Backend Focus)

We're a digital consultancy that builds tech solutions that make business sense. When we write code, we think about how it helps our clients work better - from automating repetitive tasks to building systems that support growth. We're looking for a Software Engineer who's strong in backend development and writes code with purpose.
The Role
- Build backend systems and APIs that solve specific business problems
- Write code that automates real work and saves actual hours
- Use AI tools to develop faster, then verify and refine the output before shipping
- Handle frontend work when projects need it
- Work directly with clients to understand how your code helps their business
- Take part in our agile development process
What We're Looking For
- Strong backend developer who thinks about the why behind features
- You've worked with full production systems - understanding what's needed from development through deployment, monitoring, and maintenance
- Active experience using AI programming tools (GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude, etc.) with the judgment to review and verify what AI produces
- Knowledge of how backend, frontend, database, and infrastructure work together in live systems
- Comfort with version control and collaborative development
- Basic frontend abilities for full-stack projects
- Clear communication skills - you'll talk directly with clients
Technical Skills
- Strong foundation in backend languages (e.g. Node.js, PHP)
- Database design and implementation
- API development experience
- Version control with Git
- Web security fundamentals
- AI-assisted programming
- Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
The Setup
- Base: Kuala Lumpur area
- Schedule: Flexible hybrid arrangement
- Work locations: We rotate between cafes around KL about twice a week - you'll need reliable transport
- Team: You'll work with our development and client service teams
Nice to Have
- Computer Science or Software Engineering degree
- Experience with business process automation
- Background in SEO or digital marketing tech
- Previous work in business-focused development
