Job Description

Why PayNet / Why Now

  • PayNet operates at the centre of Malaysia's payments ecosystem, where industry and regulatory developments directly shape strategic direction and execution priorities.
  • As the ecosystem evolves, there is a need to form clear, consistent house views and engage externally to shape outcomes, not just respond to them.
  • This role sits within the CEO Office to connect external developments with internal strategy, ensuring PayNet is aligned, prepared, and influential in direction-setting.
  • Works alongside the Head as part of the CEO's extended office, driving substance behind industry engagement and regulatory positioning – not just coordination.

TL; DR

  • Act as the engine behind PayNet's industry and regulatory positioning.
  • Shape and articulate clear house views, grounded in business strategy and ecosystem realities.
  • Engage with industry bodies, regulators, and participants to influence direction and alignment.
  • Translate external developments into clear internal implications and coordinated responses.

Why This Role Matters

  • Industry direction is shaped early through engagement and positioning – this role ensures PayNet has a clear voice.
  • Without alignment, organisations risk fragmented or inconsistent positions externally.
  • External developments often require internal alignment and adaptation across multiple divisions.
  • Strong positioning enables PayNet to lead discussions, not react to them.
  • Requires credibility, judgement, and ability to engage senior stakeholders internally and externally without relying on hierarchy.

What You Will Actually Do

  • Develop and shape PayNet's house views on key industry and regulatory topics, grounded in strategy and business priorities.
  • Prepare clear, structured strategy materials and discussion papers to support internal alignment and external engagement.
  • Engage with regulators, industry bodies, associations, and participants, contributing to discussions and influencing outcomes where appropriate.
  • Coordinate across divisions and operating units to align internal positions before external engagement.
  • Translate external developments into clear internal implications, guiding teams on required responses or adjustments.
  • Support emerging initiatives and industry changes (e.g. scheme or model shifts), ensuring internal alignment and readiness across PayNet.

Examples of This Role in Practice

  • A new regulatory or industry initiative emerges; you shape PayNet's position and align stakeholders before external discussions.
  • Divisions have differing views on an industry topic; you consolidate into a single, clear house view.
  • An industry forum discussion is upcoming; you prepare structured materials and position PayNet to influence direction.
  • A scheme change (e.g. Interbank Cash Withdrawal) requires adjustment; you translate implications and guide internal alignment across teams.
  • External discussions evolve quickly; you ensure PayNet's position remains clear, consistent, and forward-looking.

What Will Help You Succeed

  • Strong ability to structure and articulate positions on complex industry and regulatory topics.
  • Confidence engaging external stakeholders, including regulators and senior industry participants.
  • Enterprise perspective, connecting external developments to business strategy and operational realities.
  • Ability to align multiple internal stakeholders into a single, coherent position.
  • Strong judgement in navigating sensitive discussions and evolving industry dynamics.
  • Clear, structured communication style for both internal and external audiences.
