Staff / Principal Software Engineer (IC4+)

About the role

Luka Marketing is looking for an experienced Staff / Principal Software Engineer to help us design, build, and operate complex, production-grade systems.

This is a senior individual-contributor role for someone who can provide technical direction while remaining hands-on with architecture, code, infrastructure, deployment, and operational reliability.

You will work through ambiguous business and technical requirements, make sound engineering trade-offs, and help establish practices that enable our systems and engineering team to scale sustainably.

What you'll do

• Design scalable, reliable, secure, and maintainable software systems

• Define the technical architecture and long-term direction of our platforms

• Remain hands-on with implementation, code reviews, debugging, and production issues

• Own technical decisions from initial design through deployment and operation

• Design and manage cloud infrastructure, networking, CI/CD, monitoring, and observability

• Improve system reliability, security, performance, and operational readiness

• Introduce appropriate design patterns and engineering practices without overengineering

• Establish development standards across testing, documentation, Git workflows, and releases

• Lead technical discussions and communicate architectural trade-offs clearly

• Produce technical proposals, architecture diagrams, RFCs, and decision records

• Mentor engineers and raise the overall engineering standard of the team

• Identify technical risks, architectural weaknesses, and scalability bottlenecks

• Support incident investigation, root-cause analysis, and long-term remediation

• Collaborate with product and business stakeholders to turn complex requirements into practical technical solutions

What we're looking for

• A proven track record of designing, building, and operating complex production systems

• Strong knowledge of system design and software architecture

• Strong foundations in data structures, algorithms, and problem-solving

• Practical understanding of software design patterns and architectural patterns

• Commitment to clean, readable, testable, and maintainable code

• Strong understanding of SOLID, DRY, separation of concerns, and modular design

• Experience with cloud infrastructure, deployments, CI/CD, and observability

• Experience designing APIs, data models, asynchronous workflows, and distributed systems

• Strong understanding of databases, caching, queues, concurrency, and system performance

• Experience establishing effective Git workflows and software development lifecycle practices

• Sound knowledge of automated testing, security, reliability, and production readiness

• An agile mindset with the ability to adapt to evolving requirements and deliver incrementally

• Ability to evaluate trade-offs and choose solutions appropriate to the business context

• Strong technical communication, documentation, and mentoring skills

• Experience influencing engineering decisions across multiple systems or teams
