Job Description

Our client, a leading developer and operator of internet infrastructure, is building the AI-ready data centers that power the digital world across Asia. From Tokyo to Jakarta, they create the critical platforms for cloud and AI. They are looking to hire a System & Control Manager in Johor, Malaysia.

Key Responsibilities

1. Leadership & Team Management

  • Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of controls engineers, specialists, and technicians .
  • Manage team performance, conduct reviews, and identify training needs to enhance technical expertise in controls programming and troubleshooting .
  • Foster a culture of safety, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the team .

2. Controls Engineering & System Architecture

  • Own the design, development, and standardization of control system architectures for both new data center construction and existing retrofits .
  • Oversee the development and review of controls design documents, submittals, and sequences of operations .
  • Ensure seamless integration of control systems with HVAC, electrical, fire/life safety, and security systems .
  • Manage the configuration, programming, and graphics for BMS/EPMS platforms (e.g., Schneider Electric, Siemens, Honeywell, Tridium Niagara) .

3. Operational Support & Reliability

  • Serve as the highest point of technical escalation for complex control system malfunctions, incidents, and alarms .
  • Lead root cause analysis (RCA) investigations for system failures and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence .
  • Oversee the 24/7 monitoring of critical infrastructure via telemetry and analytics platforms, ensuring rapid incident detection and resolution .
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards (ASHRAE, Uptime Institute), safety protocols (Lockout/Tagout), and cybersecurity best practices .

4. System Optimization & Continuous Improvement

  • Leverage operational data to implement predictive analytics, identify anomalies, and optimize system performance and energy efficiency (PUE/WUE) .
  • Manage the change management process for all control system software and hardware upgrades to ensure zero downtime .
  • Develop and implement tools and dashboards for real-time performance monitoring and reporting .

5. Project & Vendor Management

  • Lead and manage complex, cross-functional projects for controls upgrades, lifecycle replacements, and new technology integration .
  • Manage budgets, timelines, and resources for controls-related projects .
  • Collaborate with construction, operations, and procurement teams, and manage relationships with external vendors and contractors.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field. A Master's degree is preferred .

Experience

  • 7+ years of experience in control system design, operation, and maintenance, with a significant portion in data centers, mission-critical facilities, or high-reliability environments (e.g., pharmaceutical, oil & gas) .
  • 3+ years of experience in a leadership or management role, overseeing technical teams .
  • Proven experience with large-scale mechanical and power systems .
