Job Description
As System Engineer Operations, you will be part of the global IT Operations team, helping to ensure reliable, uninterrupted service for our internal customers across the Würth Group. Using and continuously refining our monitoring and alerting tools, you will keep a constant eye on the status and availability of our SAP and non-SAP landscape, catching potential issues before they become problems. You will act as an initial point of contact for operational topics such as SAP batch job setup and monitoring, printer administration in the SAP and Unix environment, and the coordination of system maintenance activities
Responsibilities
- Drive the stable, high-performing operation of our infrastructure, platforms and application layers, as part of our global Operations team with locations in Malaysia, Germany and Canada, working in a follow-the-sun concept.
- Analyze and resolve technical issues independently, escalating to and cooperating with relevant technical teams and external partners where required.
- Operate and further develop monitoring and observability solutions together with the monitoring experts, covering metrics, logs, alerts, dashboards and service-oriented monitoring.
- Monitor, operate and optimize SAP job chains and batch processing; analyze failed or delayed jobs and ensure timely recovery
- Ensure reliable SAP print operations using VPSX (LRS software), including spool processing, print queues, output devices and error analysis.
- Handle incidents, service requests, problems and changes in accordance with established ITSM processes; document root causes, actions and handovers clearly.
- Improve operational processes, monitoring rules, alerting paths and runbooks to reduce manual effort, recurring issues and response times.
- Support planned maintenance, releases and changes through technical review, operational preparation, implementation and follow-up.
- Maintain technical operations documentation and provide reliable information for service reviews, audits and handovers.
- Act as technical representative for your subject area, supporting colleagues with your expertise and representing the team's operational topics in specific areas of responsibility.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of availability, operational stability, transparency and automation, setting and optimizing framework conditions within your subject area.
- Provide follow-the-sun operational coverage by working shifts on weekdays during Malaysian day time and being on call during public holidays and weekends.
- Travel internationally, particularly to Germany and Canada, for at least one month per year to collaborate on-site with the global Operations team.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or an equivalent qualification.
- More than 3 years of specific, relevant work experience in IT operations, infrastructure or a comparable technical environment, with comprehensive knowledge of complex, integrated IT environments.
- Practical experience with monitoring and observability, including the analysis of metrics, logs, alerts and technical dependencies.
- Experience with Honico / Stonebranch BatchMan or comparable SAP batch and job scheduling solution.
- Experience in SAP Basis operations, particularly SAP spool management, SAP printing, output devices and print queues.
- Knowledge of scripting or automation, for example PowerShell, Bash or comparable tools, is beneficial.
- Confident use of ITSM processes, particularly incident, problem and change management.
- Ability to analyze technical issues systematically, set priorities and deliver traceable solutions under time pressure, largely independently and against agreed targets.
- Excellent analytical thinking skills and a meticulous mindset.
- A genuine interest in developing sustainable solutions and engaging with new, unfamiliar topics.
- Strong communication, coordination and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work effectively in English within international, cross-functional teams; German language skills are an advantage.
