Role Description

This is a full-time on-site role for a Tax Manager, based in Georgetown, Penang. The Tax Manager will oversee tax planning, compliance, and preparation for clients, ensuring adherence to the latest tax laws and regulations. Responsibilities include advising on tax strategies, preparing and reviewing tax filings, conducting tax risk assessments, staying updated on legislative changes, and mentoring team members to ensure optimal client service and compliance outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Experience in Tax Compliance and adherence to regulatory frameworks
  • Strong proficiency in Tax Preparation and documentation
  • In-depth knowledge of Tax Law and its applications
  • Ability to perform risk assessments and address complex tax-related issues
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (professional certifications such as CPA or ACCA are highly advantageous)
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organisational skills
  • Proven ability to lead teams and foster professional growth
  • Effective communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Familiarity with industry-specific regulations and trends in Malaysia

Key Responsibilities

1. Tax Compliance and Reporting

  • Oversee and review the preparation of tax computations and filings to ensure compliance with local tax laws and regulations.
  • Manage the preparation and submission of direct tax returns, ensuring all statutory deadlines are met.
  • Provide expert advice and support to clients during tax audits, mitigating risks and resolving issues efficiently.
  • Stay informed on updates to tax laws and regulations and ensure compliance across all operations.

2. Team Management and Operations

  • Lead, mentor, and manage the Tax Compliance Team, fostering a high-performance culture.
  • Monitor and manage daily operations to ensure efficient workflows and resource allocation.
  • Conduct performance reviews and identify development opportunities for team members.

3. Internal Control and Continuous Improvement

  • Develop, document, and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for tax-related work processes.
  • Regularly review and update internal control procedures to reflect regulatory changes and enhance operational efficiency.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve tax processes and service delivery.

4. Client Relationship Management

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, ensuring their tax compliance needs are met with excellence.
  • Provide proactive and practical solutions to complex tax-related issues.

Requirements

  • Professional certification such as ACCA, CPA (Aust), CIMA, or equivalent is mandatory.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in income tax compliance, with a track record of managing a tax team.
  • Strong knowledge of Malaysian tax regulations, compliance procedures, and reporting requirements.
  • Proven ability to lead and develop a team, with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented and highly organized, with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency in relevant tax software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Knowledge in AI adoption on work flows is added advantages
