About the Role
Techzu is looking for a hands-on Technical Lead to drive the engineering standards, architecture, and delivery quality of our software development team.
You will work closely with the company leadership to ensure our systems are scalable, secure, and maintainable, while leading an offshore development team.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving complex technical problems, mentoring engineers, and building reliable enterprise software systems.
You will play a key role in shaping the technical direction of the company while ensuring strong execution from the engineering team.
Key Responsibilities
1. Technical Leadership
- Lead the technical direction and architecture of our software systems
- Establish and enforce coding standards, development workflows, and engineering best practices
- Review and approve major technical decisions and architectural changes
- Ensure systems are designed for performance, scalability, and security
2. Engineering Governance
- Oversee code quality through structured code reviews
- Validate development timelines and technical feasibility
- Guide the engineering team in solving complex technical challenges
- Ensure adherence to engineering standards across all projects
3. Team Leadership
- Lead and mentor Senior Developers within the offshore development team
- Support the growth and development of engineers
- Work closely with team leads to ensure project delivery timelines are met
- Provide technical guidance and coaching to engineers
4. Product & Project Delivery
- Collaborate with the product and management team to translate business requirements into technical solutions
- Ensure projects are delivered with high quality and maintainable code
- Identify technical risks early and propose solutions
5. Infrastructure & Performance Optimisation
- Review and optimise system architecture and infrastructure
- Improve system performance and scalability
- Identify opportunities to reduce hosting and development costs
Technology Stack
Our current technology stack includes:
- PHP (Laravel or similar frameworks)
- MERN Stack (MongoDB, Express.js, React, Node.js)
- React Native
- Cloud & Infrastructure: AWS / Azure / cloud-based infrastructure
Experience across multiple parts of the stack will be highly valuable.
Requirements
1. Experience
At least 8 years of software development experience
Prior experience as a Technical Lead, Lead Engineer, or Senior Software Engineer
Experience designing and delivering enterprise software systems
Experience working with offshore or distributed development teams
2. Technical Skills
Strong experience in several of the following:
- PHP development (Laravel or similar frameworks)
- MERN stack (MongoDB, Express, React, Node.js)
- React Native mobile development
- API architecture and microservices
- Database design and optimisation
- Cloud infrastructure and deployment
3. Leadership Capability
- Experience mentoring and guiding engineers
- Strong code review and technical governance practices
- Ability to evaluate development timelines and technical feasibility
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
Preferred Experience
Candidates with the following experience will have an advantage:
- Experience building large-scale enterprise systems
- Experience leading teams of 10+ engineers
- Experience optimising system performance and infrastructure cost
- Experience implementing CI/CD and DevOps practices
