Role Overview

The Technical Manager is a full-time, on-site role overseeing technical operations for ASSB's medical and laboratory equipment portfolio.The role leads technical support and installation activities, ensures timely maintenance and troubleshooting, and manages a team of technicians and service engineers across projects and hospital deployments.

The Technical Manager also evaluates new products and technologies for distribution, supports tender and implementation projects, and works closely with other departments within the company such as sales and service teams to ensure customer needs are met in line with MDA Malaysia and other applicable regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead technical support operations for ASSB's medical and laboratory equipment, including installation, commissioning, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting at hospital and laboratory sites.
  • Recruit, train, mentor, and manage a team of technicians and service engineers; allocate resources across concurrent projects and sites.
  • Plan, execute, and monitor technical projects including tender implementations and hospital deployments against timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
  • Coordinate with sales and business development teams to scope customer requirements, support tender submissions, and provide technical input during the pre-sales process.
  • Evaluate new products, technologies, and manufacturer partnerships to support ongoing product innovation and portfolio development.
  • Ensure all technical activities comply with MDA Malaysia guidelines, ISO , and other applicable quality, safety, and regulatory standards.
  • Prepare technical documentation, service reports, and project status reports for internal and customer use.
  • Drive continuous improvement of service processes, SOPs, and turnaround times.
  • Support customer education and training activities, including product demonstrations and user training at hospital sites.
  • Liaise with external distributors, manufacturers, and partners on technical matters, escalations, and warranty/service claims.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of hands-on technical support experience in medical or laboratory equipment, including installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and customer-facing service.
  • 1+ years in a supervisory or team leadership role, with proven ability to coach and develop technical staff.
  • Degree in Biomedical Engineering, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Biomedical Science, or a related technical field.
  • Working knowledge of MDA Malaysia regulatory requirements and quality/safety standards applicable to medical devices (e.g. ISO , GDPMDS).
  • Demonstrated project management experience planning, budget and timeline management, and coordination across cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to evaluate new technologies and support product innovation.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; comfortable working on-site with customers, hospital staff, and internal teams.
  • Proficiency in English and Bahasa Malaysia (spoken and written) .
  • Willingness to undertake domestic and international travel as required by business needs.
  • Valid driving license and own transport.

Preferred (Good to Have)

  • Prior experience working with a medical device distributor or manufacturer, rather than solely on the hospital/end-user side.
  • Existing familiarity with hospital procurement and tender processes in Malaysia.
  • Established relationships within the Malaysian healthcare or hospital network.
  • Experience with laboratory information systems (LIS) or equipment connectivity/interfacing.
