About the Role

Our client, a fast-growing digital bank in Malaysia, is seeking an experienced Test Lead with strong automation expertise to join their technology team on a contract basis. The successful candidate will lead end-to-end quality assurance activities across core banking and digital platform projects, ensuring high standards of software quality are maintained throughout the delivery lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

•     Lead and manage the QA team in planning, designing, and executing test strategies for digital banking applications

•     Define and implement automation frameworks, test scripts, and CI/CD integration pipelines

•     Drive shift-left testing practices, including early-stage involvement in requirement reviews and design walkthroughs

•     Oversee functional, regression, integration, performance, and UAT testing activities

•     Collaborate closely with business analysts, developers, and project managers to ensure quality is embedded throughout the SDLC

•     Monitor, report, and escalate defects and quality risks to relevant stakeholders in a timely manner

•     Maintain test documentation including test plans, test cases, test reports, and defect logs

•     Ensure compliance with banking regulatory standards and internal audit requirements related to software testing

•     Mentor and coach junior QA engineers within the team

•     Participate in sprint ceremonies including planning, reviews, and retrospectives in an Agile delivery environment

Requirements

Technical Skills

•     Minimum 6 years of QA experience, with at least 2 years in a Test Lead capacity

•     Hands-on experience with automation tools such as Selenium, Cypress, Appium, or equivalent

•     Proficiency in at least one scripting or programming language (Java, Python, JavaScript, or similar)

•     Experience with API testing tools such as Postman, REST Assured, or SoapUI

•     Familiarity with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI, or Azure DevOps

•     Experience with test management tools such as JIRA, Zephyr, Xray, or HP ALM

•     Knowledge of SQL and ability to perform backend/database testing

Domain & Industry Experience

•     Prior experience in the banking or financial services industry is mandatory

•     Exposure to digital banking platforms, mobile banking applications, or fintech products is highly preferred

•     Understanding of core banking systems, payment gateways, or open banking APIs is an advantage

Other Requirements

•     Malaysian citizen only — open to Malaysian nationals residing in Malaysia

•     Strong communication skills in English; Bahasa Malaysia proficiency is a plus

•     Ability to work in an Agile/Scrum delivery environment

•     Comfortable working in a fast-paced, regulated environment with tight delivery timelines

Nice to Have

•     ISTQB certification (Foundation or Advanced level)

•     Experience with performance testing tools such as JMeter or Gatling

•     Exposure to BDD frameworks such as Cucumber or SpecFlow

•     Prior experience working in a digital bank setup or greenfield banking project
