Vice President Finance

Job Objective

The Vice President – Finance serves as the second-in-command of the Finance function and acts as the principal deputy to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), providing strategic leadership and oversight across key Group finance functions.

The role has overall responsibility for supporting the CFO in Group financial reporting and consolidation, treasury and capital management, taxation, Group insurance, Finance Shared Services, and the Finance Centre of Excellence.

The position plays a critical role in strengthening the Group's financial governance, reporting integrity, internal controls, regulatory compliance, and effective management of financial resources. The incumbent will also support the CFO on corporate exercises, strategic initiatives, sustainability, finance-related enterprise risk management, and organisational development, while providing leadership continuity across the Finance function.

Key Responsibilities

1. Deputy to the CFO & Finance Leadership

  • Serve as the principal deputy and second-in-command to the CFO, providing leadership continuity across the Group Finance function.
  • Translate the CFO's strategic priorities into coordinated finance strategies, plans, policies, controls, and deliverables across the Group.
  • Provide leadership and direction across the Finance functions under the role's oversight.
  • Represent the CFO at management, Board, committee, or stakeholder meetings when delegated.
  • Ensure significant financial, regulatory, compliance, governance, and risk matters are promptly identified, escalated, and addressed.
  • Partner with the CFO and senior management on key financial and strategic decisions affecting the Group.

2. Group Financial Reporting & Consolidation

  • Lead the preparation, review, and delivery of accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual consolidated financial statements and management reports.
  • Oversee the preparation of Bursa Malaysia announcements, annual reports, statutory financial statements, and other regulatory financial filings.
  • Ensure compliance with MFRS, IFRS, Bursa Malaysia Listing Requirements, the Companies Act, and applicable Group accounting policies and governance requirements.
  • Maintain robust Group consolidation processes, accounting policies, judgements, disclosures, controls, and audit readiness.
  • Ensure consistency and integrity of financial reporting across all Group entities.
  • Drive continuous improvement in reporting quality, timeliness, transparency, and financial data integrity.

3. Treasury & Capital Management

  • Provide strategic oversight of the Group's liquidity, cash flow, funding, banking facilities, foreign exchange exposure, and treasury operations.
  • Optimise cash management, liquidity deployment, borrowing costs, funding arrangements, and capital structure.
  • Monitor compliance with financing covenants, treasury policies, and relevant financial controls.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with banks, lenders, financial institutions, and other funding partners.
  • Evaluate funding requirements and provide recommendations on financing strategies to support the Group's business objectives.

4. Tax Compliance & Planning

  • Oversee Group-wide corporate income tax, indirect tax, withholding tax, transfer pricing, deferred tax, and other applicable tax matters.
  • Ensure accurate and timely tax computations, filings, payments, documentation, and responses to tax authorities.
  • Lead effective and commercially sound tax planning and optimisation initiatives within applicable laws and regulations.
  • Assess the tax implications of business initiatives, investments, corporate transactions, and restructuring activities.
  • Monitor changes in tax legislation and assess their potential impact on the Group.
  • Oversee tax audits, disputes, incentives, and engagements with tax authorities and external advisers.

5. Group Insurance & Risk Protection

  • Provide strategic oversight of the Group's insurance programme, including risk assessment, coverage adequacy, renewals, premiums, claims management, and broker/insurer relationships.
  • Ensure insurance coverage appropriately reflects the Group's operational, financial, contractual, and business continuity risks.
  • Review insurance strategies and programmes to ensure appropriate protection and cost effectiveness.
  • Coordinate with relevant stakeholders to address significant claims and insurance-related risk exposures.

6. Finance Shared Services

  • Provide strategic leadership and oversight of the Finance Shared Services function, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, treasury operations, and other centralised finance activities.
  • Drive standardisation, service quality, productivity, efficiency, internal controls, and compliance across shared-service operations.
  • Establish and monitor appropriate service standards, KPIs, service-level agreements, and performance measures.

7. Finance Centre of Excellence

  • Lead the Finance Centre of Excellence (CoE) in establishing consistent Group-wide finance policies, processes, data definitions, reporting standards, and operating practices.
  • Drive finance transformation initiatives covering systems implementation, automation, analytics, digitalisation, process optimisation, and continuous improvement.
  • Promote standardised and scalable finance processes supported by robust governance and effective controls.
  • Establish clear process ownership and encourage the adoption of best practices across the Group Finance organisation.

8. Corporate Exercises & Strategic Finance Support

  • Support the CFO in major corporate exercises, including mergers and acquisitions, divestments, restructuring, fund-raising, joint ventures, investments, and other strategic transactions.
  • Lead or coordinate financial due diligence, financial modelling, valuation, transaction structuring, integration planning, and related financial assessments.
  • Work closely with internal stakeholders, professional advisers, auditors, regulators, and other external parties on corporate transactions.
  • Provide financial analysis, insights, and recommendations to support investment decisions, business plans, major contracts, and strategic initiatives.

9. Sustainability & Finance-Related Enterprise Risk Management

  • Support the CFO in establishing and strengthening the Group's sustainability governance, strategy, targets, performance monitoring, and relevant disclosures.
  • Ensure appropriate consideration of financial implications, reporting requirements, and data integrity in sustainability-related initiatives.
  • Provide oversight of finance-related enterprise risks, including financial reporting, liquidity, foreign exchange, credit, tax, insurance, treasury, and finance-process risks.
  • Ensure key finance risks, controls, mitigation actions, and emerging risks are appropriately identified, assessed, monitored, and reported.
  • Strengthen integration between Finance, Enterprise Risk Management, sustainability, governance, and business planning.

10. Governance, Controls & Stakeholder Management

  • Maintain a strong and effective financial control and governance environment across the Group.
  • Oversee internal and external audit activities, including timely remediation of audit findings and implementation of control improvements.
  • Ensure appropriate governance over financial reporting, treasury, tax, insurance, shared services, and other finance activities.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with external auditors, tax advisers, company secretaries, regulators, insurers, bankers, professional advisers, and other key stakeholders.
  • Ensure significant financial, governance, compliance, and risk matters are communicated clearly and promptly to the CFO, senior management, Board, and relevant governance committees.

Requirements

Education & Professional Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline, or a recognised professional accounting qualification such as CA(M), ACCA, CPA, or equivalent.
  • Must be a member of the Malaysia Institute of Accountants (MIA) or eligible to apply for MIA membership.

Experience & Technical Competencies

  • Minimum 15 years of progressive finance experience, including at least 5 years in a senior finance leadership position overseeing multiple finance functions within a sizeable, complex, multinational, or listed organisation.
  • Proven track record in Group financial reporting and consolidation, with strong knowledge of MFRS/IFRS, Bursa Malaysia Listing Requirements, the Companies Act, and applicable financial reporting and governance requirements.
  • Broad practical experience across treasury, funding, tax compliance and planning, Group insurance, financial controls, audit, and finance-related enterprise risk management.
  • Demonstrated experience leading Finance Shared Services and/or a Finance Centre of Excellence, including process standardisation, service-level management, transformation, systems implementation, automation, analytics, and continuous improvement.
  • Proven experience supporting or leading mergers and acquisitions, divestments, restructuring, fund-raising, joint ventures, or other corporate exercises, including financial due diligence, valuation, financial modelling, transaction structuring, and integration planning.
  • Proven ability to act as a strategic partner and trusted deputy to the CFO, exercising sound judgement and managing complex, high-impact financial matters.
  • Ability to engage effectively with the Board, senior management, auditors, bankers, regulators, tax authorities, insurers, professional advisers, and other key stakeholders.
  • High standards of integrity, professional ethics, governance, confidentiality, and accountability.
  • Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally as required to support Group operations, corporate exercises, and strategic initiatives.
