Operate, monitor, and control the Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) / Industrial Effluent Treatment System (IETS) to ensure continuous and compliant operation.
Manage wastewater flow, sludge handling, solid waste, and piping systems to maintain stable plant performance.
Prepare, handle, and control chemical dosing in accordance with SOP and safety requirements.
Conduct daily performance monitoring, including laboratory testing of influent and effluent samples (e.g. pH, COD, BOD, TSS, oil & grease where applicable).
Perform basic troubleshooting and coordinate with maintenance teams for equipment issues (pumps, blowers, dosing systems, automation).
Implement and follow preventive maintenance programs to minimize downtime and operational risks.
Manage Scheduled Waste related to WWTP/IETS (e.g. sludge, chemicals) and coordinate disposal with licensed contractors.
Maintain accurate operational records, chemical usage logs, lab results, and compliance documentation.
Liaise with DOE and relevant authorities during inspections, audits, and environmental incidents.
Support environmental audits and certifications (e.g. ISO 14001, ISO 45001, GMP, Halal, SMETA where applicable).
Supervise, guide, and train WWTP operators and junior staff on plant operation, safety, and compliance.
Support improvement projects, including plant upgrading, process optimization, and automation systems (e.g. SCADA), where applicable.
Report abnormalities promptly and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
Job Requirements
Diploma or Certificate in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Water Technology, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
Must possess valid DOE Competent Person Certification for IETS / WWTP operations (e.g. CePIETSO, CePSTPO or equivalent recognized by DOE Malaysia).
Minimum 25 years of hands-on experience in industrial wastewater treatment plant operations.
Strong knowledge of DOE regulations, Environmental Quality Act, and effluent discharge standards.
Familiar with WWTP/IETS equipment, process control, chemical dosing systems, and basic lab testing procedures.
Experience in Scheduled Waste management and eSWIS reporting is an added advantage.
Able to supervise operators and coordinate with maintenance and EHS teams.
Knowledge of safety procedures, chemical handling, and emergency response.
Experience in audit support and environmental compliance activities is preferred.
Able to work independently, handle shift duties (if required), and respond to plant emergencies.
