Overview of Hiring Activity 

The foundit insights Tracker in Malaysia registered a 11% increase in hiring activity from December 2022 to December 2023.

The tracker saw marginal growth month-on-month but has registered 8% growth over the past six months, indicating a positive trend in Malaysia’s e-recruitment landscape.

Hiring Trends by Industry (YoY numbers)  

In Demand:  

Malaysia saw a strong growth in Retail (+113%), Hospitality (+84%), and Engineering, Construction, and Real Estate (+39%). 

Facing Challenges:  

BFSI (-31%) and Oil and Gas (-20%) continue to face declines, although there are signs of recovery. 

Hiring Trends by Functional Area (YoY numbers)  

In Demand:  

Marketing & Communications (+48%) and Engineering/Production and Real Estate (+47%) see significant demand. 

Facing Challenges:  

Purchase/Logistics/Supply Chain (-21%), Customer Service (-17%), and Software, Hardware & Telecom (-17%).
