The RoleWe are seeking a Legal Associate to support and work closely with the Principal Consultant in delivering comprehensive legacy planning solutions. This role is suited to a lawyer with early private client experience who is keen to deepen technical capability, gain exposure to cross-border matters, and develop a well-rounded estate planning practice. The Legal Associate will play an active role in drafting, matter management, and client engagement across the lifecycle of each file.
Key ResponsibilitiesAssist in managing client matters from initial intake through to completion, including file opening, issue identification, drafting timelines, and closing documentation.
Draft wills governed by Malaysian law and assist with wills involving foreign jurisdictions, adapting documents to execution, witnessing, and probate requirements with guidance and external counsel support where appropriate.
Support the preparation of trust-related documentation, including testamentary trusts, family or discretionary trust structures, and ancillary documents such as letters of wishes and asset schedules.
Compile and maintain asset and beneficiary information for clients with cross-border estates, coordinating inputs from external legal, tax, or fiduciary advisers as required.
Assist with probate and estate administration matters, including preparation of court documents, affidavits, supporting schedules, and correspondence with relevant authorities.
Maintain proper file management, document control, and safekeeping protocols in line with firm procedures and professional standards.
Participate in client meetings alongside the Principal Consultant and assist in preparing follow-up notes, summaries, and implementation steps.
Contribute to knowledge materials, articles, and client education initiatives as part of the firm's thought leadership and business development efforts.
Requirements23 years experience in private client, estate planning, probate, trust work, or a related practice area.
Strong legal drafting skills with a high level of written English proficiency; Bahasa Malaysia and/or Mandarin language skills are an advantage.
Working knowledge of Malaysian succession and probate processes; exposure to common law jurisdictions or cross-border matters is beneficial but not essential.
Strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple matters concurrently.
Professional judgment, discretion, and a client-focused mindset.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with document management or legal practice systems is an advantage.
