The Business Development Manager will be responsible for driving the company's growth and profitability by developing a robust pipeline of utility-scale project opportunities from inception to close. This role also involves building and maintaining strong relationships with clients and stakeholders, as well as preparing and delivering presentations, proposals, and marketing materials to engage new and potential partners.
Key responsibilities:
- Identify and secure solar/ renewable energy opportunities across Malaysia and ASEAN
- Build relationships with government agencies, IPPs, corporates and investors to drive project uptake
- Monitor renewable energy policies and incentives to align strategies with regulatory shifts
- Lead project feasibility, including site assessment, grid studies, financial viability, for bankable proposals
- Develop partnerships with EPC contractors, financiers and tech providers for execution support
- Manager tender bids (LSS, corporate PPAs) and negotiate offtake agreements such as PPAs and leases
- Cross functional collaboration with other teams, including technical, legal, finance and ESG, for compliant execution
- Track KPIs (pipeline growth, MW secured, revenue) and report on market trends/ competitors
- Represent company at industry events, conferences and networking forums
- Support marketing initiatives by providing market insights for solar campaigns, case studies and thought leadership
- Mention junior teams on solar project structuring, client pitching and ASEAN market dynamics
- Coordinate post-deal handover to project execution teams, ensuring smooth transition and client expectations alignment
- Monitor competitor activity and emerging solar/ RE technologies to inform strategy
- Assist in ESG reporting by tracking carbon savings, sustainability metrics and stakeholder impact for projects
Qualifications/ experiences:
- 2+ years of experience
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Renewable Energy/ Electrical), Business, Economics, or related fields. MBA or Master's preferred.
- PMP, CFA or solar specific credentials are advantageous
- Proven track record in securing solar projects and negotiating PPAs or offtake agreements, winning tenders, structuring project finance (debt, equity, JVs)
- Knowledge of PV tech, feasibility studies, grid codes and EPC contracts
- Understanding of NEM, FIT, net billing and ASEAN energy policies
- Able to model project economics LCOE, IRR and payback period
- Proficient in identifying trends, competitors and growth markets
- Strong negotiation and contract structuring skills
- Willing to travel across ASEAN
