Overview
This role leads the end-to-end finance function for the Malaysia business, acting as a key strategic partner to commercial and operational leaders. Reporting to the Regional Finance Head (Rest of Asia Pacific), the position plays a critical role in driving financial performance, strengthening governance, and supporting long-term business expansion.
Beyond core finance responsibilities, this individual will be expected to influence decision-making, improve operational efficiency, and build a forward-looking finance capability across planning, analysis, and controllership.
Key Responsibilities
1) Business Partnering & Strategy
- Partner closely with country leadership to provide financial insights that support business decisions and growth initiatives
- Drive profitability improvements through detailed analysis of business performance, cost structures, and operational efficiency
- Act as a trusted advisor to stakeholders, offering commercial and financial perspectives on key initiatives
2) Financial Planning & Analysis
- Lead budgeting, forecasting, and long-term planning cycles, ensuring alignment with business strategy
- Deliver high-quality financial analysis, highlighting risks, opportunities, and actionable insights
- Strengthen forecasting accuracy across revenue, costs, capital expenditure, and working capital
3) Performance Management & Controls
- Establish and enhance financial processes to improve visibility, efficiency, and cost discipline
- Monitor financial performance against targets and drive corrective actions where needed
- Oversee credit management and collections to ensure strong cash flow and adherence to policies
4) Governance, Compliance & Reporting
- Ensure all financial reporting is timely, accurate, and aligned with relevant accounting standards (including US GAAP where applicable)
- Maintain strong internal controls and ensure compliance with corporate governance frameworks (e.g., SOX, internal policies, and regulatory requirements)
- Oversee statutory reporting, tax compliance, and audit requirements within Malaysia
5) Operational & Project Support
- Provide financial oversight on project accounting, ensuring proper revenue and cost recognition
- Support business initiatives and regional projects as required
- Drive continuous improvement in finance systems, tools, and processes
Requirements
- Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline, with a professional qualification (e.g., MIA / Chartered Accountant)
- Proven experience leading finance in a commercial or operational environment
- Strong business acumen with the ability to translate financial data into meaningful insights
- Hands-on experience in financial planning, analysis, and controllership
- Familiarity with ERP systems and leveraging them to improve efficiency
- Comfortable operating in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with evolving business needs
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders across functions
