Get to know Us:

We are on a mission to revolutionise access to global financial opportunities through digital assets.

Hata, as a licensed digital asset platform that is regulated and supervised by both Securities Commission of Malaysia and the Labuan Financial Services Authority, provides innovative online spot trading to both retail and institutional clients globally to access opportunities in the digital asset space.

Our team is composed of experienced professionals from PwC, Luno, JP Morgan, Nokia, Huawei and Grab. Powered by our mission to provide the safest & most reliable gateway to access digital assets, we adopt a customer-first approach by operating a compliant platform that is safe and easy to use for our customers.

We have big dreams to achieve and providing a safe and easy to use platform for people in our region is merely the first step. If you have big ambitions, help build our new digital asset platform with us.

Get to know the Role:

We are looking for a Data Engineer to architect our internal Source of Truth. Following the model of leading global exchanges, you will build the foundational systems that centralize internal and third-party data for analytics, financial reporting, and fraud detection. You will bridge the gap between high-frequency trading logs and the rigorous audit trails required by the Securities Commission (SC) and Bank Negara Malaysia, ensuring all data meets the 2027 CARF reporting standards.

The day-to-day activities:

  • CEX Pipeline Architecture: Design and maintain fault-tolerant ETL/ELT pipelines using Airflow, dbt, and Databricks to ingest high-frequency order book data and internal ledger transactions.
  • Scalable Data Platforms: Construct and optimize data warehouses using Snowflake, BigQuery, or Redshift to provide reliable access for business and product stakeholders.
  • Regulatory Engineering: Develop automated data marts for CARF and SC submissions, focusing on tax identity verification and 6-decimal precision financial reporting.
  • Security & IAM: Collaborate with the ISO to implement end-to-end data security, managing KMS (Key Management Services) and access controls across all storage layers.
  • Performance Optimization: Fine-tune SQL and NoSQL clusters (e.g., Clickhouse, HBase) to handle volatility spikes and high-frequency trade settlements without data loss.
  • Shariah Data Governance: Implement automated metadata logic to flag and partition Shariah-compliant assets within the internal ledger.
  • Infrastructure as Code: Manage data infrastructure using Docker, Terraform, and CI/CD, ensuring all systems are treated as code for maximum auditability.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related technical field.
  • 5+ years of experience in Python and SQL with a proven track record of building production-grade data platforms.
  • Previous experience in a regulated fintech environment (Banking, Trading, or CEX) is highly preferred.

The Nice-to-haves:

  • Extensive experience in low-latency data processing using Java, Golang, or Rust for high-performance financial systems.
  • Deep understanding of centralized ledger architecture and the reconciliation of fiat-to-crypto internal wallet movements.
  • Familiarity with high-frequency trading (HFT) data structures and the ability to optimize logs for real-time risk monitoring.
  • Proficiency in managing big data ecological stacks including Flink, Spark Streaming, or Clickhouse for large-scale analysis.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills specifically applied to financial audit trails and transaction pattern detection.
  • Detail-oriented mindset with high accuracy in managing PII masking and data encryption protocols for regulatory compliance.
  • Effective communication skills to translate complex data infrastructure strategies into actionable insights for the Board and regulators.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, results-driven, on-site environment.

Our Culture:

At Hata, we strongly advocate for on-site work as our preferred mode of operation, prioritising the benefits of in-person collaboration and communication to promote a productive work environment. We are a forward-thinking and ambitious team that promotes equal opportunities, values diversity, hard work, and thrives on the continuous quest for excellence. If you're looking for a work environment that appreciates hard work, does not tolerate office politics, and rewards deserving employees equally, Hata is the place for you.
