Legal Counsel

• Be responsible for various corporate, legal and regulatory matters, including but not limited to: Corporate governance, legal and regulatory compliance, project contracts, other agreements, vendor & customer relationships, local laws and regulations, local policies, disputes, claims, litigations;
• Provide legal opinions in respect of proposed business agreements, procurement actions, contract claims, congressional and command inquiries, collections, garnishments, tort and claims. Review, draft, and negotiate contracts and legal agreements, ensuring alignment with company policies and applicable laws.
• Practice legal and compliance risk control, which may include participating in training and educational sessions that deal with prevention of litigation and recommend changes to current or proposed policy. Provide analysis of current and proposed laws and policy and provides counsel to directorates.
• Participate in projects to provide legal review over project-related documents such as bidding documents, and provide analysis about legal risks and recommendations on prevention.
• Follow up updates on local laws, regulations and policies and give comprehensive report on legal issues accordingly from time to time.
• Handle company litigation including: drafting/arguing pre-trial motions, handling depositions. Judge the merits of major court cases field against or on behalf of the company, work with the appropriate executive(s) to define a strategic defense and approve settlements of disputes where warranted.
• Participated in retention, management and evaluation of all outside counsel.

Job Requirements

• Candidate must possess Certificate in Legal Practice (CLP)
• Demonstrates a solid foundation in Malaysian law, with deep expertise in local legal practice
• Excellent English oral and writing ability, proficiency in Chinese (Mandarin) is an advantage
• Have at least 3 years of previous legal experience (full time)
• Professional legal analysis skills and strong ability in solving problems
• Excellent communication skills and logical thinking ability
