Duties and responsibilities

  • Reviewing and negotiating a variety of contracts, including Project Deeds, Tender deeds, Power Purchase Agreements (PPA), consultancy, engineering, procurement and construction contracts and service contracts.
  • Identifying key project risks and preparing commercially focused solutions to manage and mitigate risks with the tender teams.
  • Advising on and reviewing, guarantees, bonds and other security documents.
  • Developing and assisting with the negotiations of subcontracts for use by project teams.
  • Managing and providing instructions to external lawyers.
  • Providing advice and guidance to project teams on issues arising throughout the full life cycle of projects.
  • Solid background in contracts with the ability to draft form agreements and review, understand, synthesize and communicate basic provisions from various types of contracts.
  • Plan and review commercial terms and conditions in the negotiation of new projects.
  • Providing training to project and Sales and & Origination teams on contract law and updates of applicable legislation with which they must comply.
  • Responsible for Contract and Claims Management, Client Interaction and negotiations advising on and administration of all contracts, drafting and reviewing all correspondences, contracts and tendering documents, insurance claim management and contract risk management.
  • Develop standard contract terms and conditions for Procurement and Sub-contracting.
  • Develop standard contract administration process tools manuals and procedures for in-house implementation.
  • Administer and manage all contractual matters, process and prepare all payment certifications, formulate standard forms and procedures, prepare all contractual correspondences, advice management on all contractual matters and assist in ensuring all site daily activities are performed in tandem and in- compliance with the contract requirements.
  • Plan and review commercial terms and conditions in the negotiation of new projects.
  • Review and monitor performance and commercial aspects of new projects.
  • Defend the company in event of disputes by documenting our case in a systematic and commercial astute manner.
  • Strategize with internal customers to negotiate with customers on pricing, contractual and technical terms.

Requirements

  • In-house Legal Counsel, Corporate Lawyer, Commercial Lawyer who has gained experience in any construction, infrastructure major projects.
  • Excellent communication skills and legal drafting skills.
  • Verbal reasoning skills – ability to interpret the precise meaning of written documents such as contracts, legislation, case decisions.
  • Risk assessment and risk mitigation skills – ability to identify risk/issues and offer practical commercially appropriate solutions to manage/mitigate risks.
  • Negotiation and influencing skills.
  • Resilience, personal drive and motivation
  • High attention to details and strong organizational skills.
