Job Purpose

Support the design, enhancement and transformation of Maybank Group's payments business across domestic, regional and cross-border payments. Working under the guidance of the Payments CoE Lead and senior Payments SMEs, the role will translate business, customer and market needs into clear requirements and practical payment solutions across ASEAN.

The role contributes end-to-end payments knowledge across products, customer journeys, market infrastructures, scheme rules, processes, controls and servicing practices, while supporting delivery from current-state assessment and design through testing, deployment, adoption and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

Payments transformation leadership

  • Act as a Payments Business SME supporting Group payments transformation and Core Banking Transformation programmes.
  • Provide analysis and recommendations to the Payments CoE Lead and senior SMEs on business priorities, design decisions, dependencies and trade-offs.
  • Contribute to regional blueprints and document market-specific requirements for scalable payment capabilities across Maybank markets.

Payments domain expertise

  • Apply working knowledge across domestic, instant, real-time, batch, cross-border, digital and corporate payments, including cash management use cases.
  • Cover payment initiation, validation, routing, orchestration, sanctions and fraud controls, clearing, settlement, liquidity, reconciliation, investigations, returns and exception management.
  • Apply practical knowledge of relevant ASEAN domestic payment rails, SWIFT, correspondent banking, ISO 20022 and regional cross-border payment linkages.

Business analysis and solution design

  • Study and document the current-state payments landscape across customer journeys, products, channels, processes, systems, operating models, controls and market-infrastructure dependencies.
  • Identify and map complete end-to-end payment processes, including upstream and downstream activities, hand-offs, decision points, data flows, control points, clearing, settlement, reconciliation and exception management.
  • Document current-state processes, process variations, pain points, root causes, business rules, risks, controls and dependencies using clear process maps, inventories and supporting analysis.
  • Propose prioritised process, product, operating-model and technology improvements to enhance customer experience, straight-through processing, turnaround time, scalability, control effectiveness, resilience and commercial outcomes.
  • Support and facilitate discovery sessions, process reviews, design workshops, impact assessments and business requirements definition.
  • Develop future-state customer journeys, business rules, process maps, functional requirements and acceptance criteria under the guidance of senior SMEs and programme leads.
  • Analyse issues, challenge assumptions constructively and recommend solutions that are customer-focused, scalable, secure, compliant, resilient and operationally sustainable.

Delivery, governance and adoption

  • Support prioritisation, governance, vendor and technology engagement, testing, migration, implementation and post-implementation stabilisation and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure traceability from business outcomes and requirements through solution design, testing and production readiness.
  • Support stakeholder alignment, business readiness, adoption and benefits tracking across Group and country teams.

Market insight, risk and controls

  • Research and monitor payment market developments, regulatory changes, scheme requirements and emerging capabilities relevant to ASEAN.
  • Support benchmarking of Maybank against regional and global banks and identify opportunities to improve customer experience, revenue, processing efficiency and regional connectivity.
  • Ensure documented requirements consider regulatory, operational risk, fraud, liquidity, settlement, data, security, resilience and audit needs.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Banking, Finance, Economics, Technology or a related discipline.
  • 5 to 8 years of relevant experience in payments, transaction banking, cash management, payments product management, payments operations, business analysis or payments transformation.
  • Relevant experience in a payments product, operations, business analysis or transformation team within a bank, financial institution, payment service provider or fintech.
  • Working knowledge of domestic payment schemes and market infrastructures in one or more ASEAN markets, together with an understanding of cross-border payments and correspondent banking.
  • Working knowledge of real-time payments, SWIFT, ISO 20022, payment hubs or orchestration platforms, clearing and settlement, reconciliation, investigations and exception handling.
  • Experience contributing to payment change or transformation initiatives and working with Business, Operations, Technology, Risk, Compliance and external partners.
  • Professional certification in payments, transaction banking, SWIFT, ISO 20022, Agile or business analysis is an advantage.
