Role

The role is a key position in the REA team with a focus on project management and product owner roles to start with transitioning into exclusively a product owner role. The successful applicant will:

  • Develop and maintain a project plan for REA covering the productization journey and to become a Product-led team
  • Conceptualize and execute different strategic or tactical initiatives needed along the journey, to reach the target state in an optimal way
  • Provide essential support to the various stakeholders under REA, by partnering on initiatives related to strategic / transformation programmes and other strategic business initiatives, to the extent they impact the Productization journey
  • As product owner, play a key role in automation of new business processes and streamline existing processes, while supporting strategic developments in the REA space; form squads, maintain backlogs, run product ceremonies, etc.
  • Monitor and evaluate product progress during the product life cycle.
  • Lead the Communications and Training agenda for change initiatives in REA
  • Play a key role in providing overall governance of REA and ensure compliance with all key governance requirements, including control and risk reporting via the Operational Risk Framework

The Opportunity

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Product Manager to lead the development and evolution of the Regulatory Engagement & Advocacy (REA) Product. This is a unique opportunity to help shape the future REA and drive the right outcomes for our client groups.

Key Responsibilities

Strategy, Delivery & execution

  • To support REA senior management in various strategic initiatives
  • Provide management and represent REA interests across multi-functional project teams including relevant business and COO teams, technology, legal, compliance, risk, and TPRM
  • Successful candidate will support delivery of Risk Monitoring, Insights & Planning initiatives, with specific focus on transformation of Risk Management practices for compliance risk domains.
  • Contribute to achieving the metrics and business outcomes in line with the product vision, strategy, and roadmap for REA.
  • Prioritize product initiatives based on strategic impact, urgency, business value, and technical feasibility.
  • Work with stakeholder to support best practices and understand user needs.
  • Develop a deep understanding of REA and how it translates into product features and capabilities.

Business

  • To assist in driving operational and process efficiencies via technological innovations with the REA senior management team
  • To work closely with the Heads of REA, providing support in various aspects related to all sub-products
  • To assist with MI requests and work with CFCR Finance and Operations as needed
  • To support the tools required by the REA teams to perform their role
  • Bring client centricity understanding to bear in the design and implementation of REA initiatives, ensuring the product effectively addresses the user needs and delivers measurable value.
  • Lead Working Groups and/or stakeholder engagement to ensure that execution is completed to plan.
  • Proactively update key stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Champion the adoption of the product across the organization through effective communication and follow-up activities.

Technology & Processes

  • Engage with Business, Process owners and Risk Framework Owner on an on-going basis and be able to drive the technology teams on build and deliver
  • Ability to think laterally and look for opportunities to simplify process and enhance controls as part of design
  • Lead the entire product lifecycle from ideation to launch and continuous improvement, utilizing agile methodologies.
  • Prepare and maintain product roadmaps based on different dimensions and levels of granularity.
  • Act as the primary interface with key functional partners.
  • Drive continuous process improvement within the product development lifecycle.
  • Proactively support Agile practices and foster a culture of continuous service improvement.
  • Review processes to ensure efficiencies and adherence to controls, policies and procedures

People & Talent

  • Act as a product evangelist, inspiring and motivating cross-functional teams to deliver exceptional results.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning within the product team and across stakeholder groups.
  • Aid development of best practices in execution, controls and risk management for REA transactions by training and communications to global teams
  • Lead through example and build the appropriate culture and values. Set appropriate tone and expectations from their team and work in collaboration with risk and control partners
  • Manage a small team of managed services staff to initially support aspects of REA product delivery

Risk Management

  • Create transparency around backlog item progress, blockers, impediments, dependencies, and product value delivery via fit for purpose business and delivery metrics, to enable effective Risk management
  • Engage process and risk control owners in upfront in design of process changes. Have oversight of direct tracking and monitoring of progress
  • Ensure that the product inherently supports the effective objective of REA
  • Incorporate robust controls and data governance principles into product design and development.
  • Monitor all major risk issues and concentrations. Where appropriate, direct remedial action and/or ensure adequate reporting.

Governance

  • Develop and run key governance forum as appropriate for REA
  • Together with the REA Head and Chief Product Owner, act as the primary point of contact for the development of processes, procedures, and controls for REA.
  • Ensure that initiatives are delivered consistent with the requirements of the ORF.
  • Ensure that that Bank's project and change management disciplines are adhered with.

Regulatory & Business Conduct

  • Display exemplary conduct and live by the Group's Values and Code of Conduct.
  • Take personal responsibility for embedding the highest standards of ethics, including regulatory and business conduct, across Standard Chartered Bank.

Skills And Experience

  • Execution of product management best practices to achieve optimal outcomes.
  • Design thinking, testing & developing user journeys.
  • Knowledge of Regulatory engagement, regulatory Policy development, government relationships or wider context of Compliance, Financial Crime and/or Risk Management.
  • Track record of successfully launching and managing complex data or analytics-driven products.
  • Ability to collaborate and work dynamically across functions. Good communication skills, ability to articulate complex concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to identifying and resolving challenges.
  • Ability to interpret data, identify trends, and make data-informed product decisions.
  • Experience working in an Agile environment, product roadmap creation and backlog management
  • Proven ability to refine and breakdown the backlog of work for teams to consume and deliver outcomes
  • Experience of working with globally distributed cross-functional teams to deliver outcomes
  • Product Owner certification (or equivalent)

Qualifications

Must Have

  • Bachelors or Master's degree from a reputable university
  • 5+ years of professional work experience in product management or project delivery or as a consultant
  • 5+ years of professional work experience in Financial Institution or Fintech or equivalent industry.

Preferred

  • Certified in product ownership approach
