Senior Instrument Engineer to join its team in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Instrumentation & Control Engineering team, contributing to the execution of upcoming projects.
The Role
Responsible for the specification, design, engineering, and execution of instrumentation and control systems for offshore/ onshore oil and gas facilities.
Ensures that instrumentation systems are designed and implemented in compliance with applicable international standards, client specifications, and offshore operational requirements, prioritizing safety, reliability, and maintainability throughout the project lifecycle.

Responsibilities
Instrumentation Engineering & Design
- Develop and review instrumentation & control engineering deliverables, including:
- Instrument Index and Instrument Data Sheets
- Instrument Hook-up Drawings and Installation Details
- Instrument Loop Diagrams and Wiring Diagrams
- Instrument Location and Cable Routing Drawings
- Fire & Gas/ Cause & Effect Diagrams (interfaces with control/ESD systems)
- Specify and prepare datasheet for process instruments such as pressure, temperature, flow, and level transmitters for offshore/ onshore service.
- Ensure proper selection of instruments suitable for hazardous areas and offshore environmental conditions.
- Review P&IDs and ensure instrumentation requirements are correctly represented and implemented.
- Maintain technical integrity - Deliver and support a strong HSE culture and take full cognizance of Health, Safety and Environmental issues
- Be fully conversant with Process safety and ensure its implementation within the Instrumentation & Control design.
- Ensure documents are originated, checked, and approved by suitable competent personnel
- Keep up to date with latest procedures, client requirements and legislation
Control & Safety Systems
- Interface with Control Systems (DCS, PLC, SCADA) and Safety Systems (ESD, F&G).
- Support SIL and LOPA studies by providing instrumentation and safety-related inputs.
- Ensure compliance with functional safety requirements in accordance with IEC 61508 / IEC 61511.
Compliance & Standards
- Ensure designs comply with applicable codes and standards such as:
- IEC, ISA, ISO standards
- API and NFPA standards
- ATEX / IECEx for hazardous areas
- Client engineering specifications and project design criteria
- Participate in hazardous area classification (HAC) and ensure appropriate equipment selection.
Interdisciplinary Coordination and interface with others
- Interface with Process, Piping, Electrical, Mechanical, Technical Safety, and Package Engineering teams.
- Coordinate with Electrical discipline for power supply, cabling, and grounding requirements.
- Participate in 3D model reviews and resolve instrumentation-related clashes.
- Support procurement by preparing datasheets, specifications and reviewing vendor documents and technical bids related to field instrument and equipment.
- Participate in relevant meeting and discussions such as HAZID, HAZOP, design safety reviews and PEER reviews.
- Liaise and interact with other disciplines/ project team to ensure overall project goals are met and advise management of variations in a timely manner.
- Respond to relevant technical queries, deviations, and non-conformance reports (NCRs).
Construction & Commissioning Support
- Provide field engineering support during fabrication, offshore installation, hook-up, loop checking, and commissioning.
- Review and respond to site queries, technical deviations, and non-conformance reports (NCRs).
- Review installation and testing procedures related to instrumentation.
- Support pre-commissioning and commissioning activities offshore.
Leadership & Mentoring
- Guide and mentor junior piping engineers and designers.
- Support Lead engineer by reviewing engineering deliverables prepared by team members and provide input on project planning, workload estimation, and scheduling activities.

Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Instrumentation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent.
- 10 years experience in Instrumentation & Control engineering and must be related to the upstream offshore/ onshore oil and gas industry (Preferably in Greenfield and Brownfield Modification/ Rejuvenation works) - Minimum of 2 years working in a multi - discipline team environment
- Strong exposure to EPC project execution, from FEED through detailed engineering and construction, is an advantage.
- Experience with offshore platforms, FPSOs, or subsea tie-ins is highly desirable.
- Member of a recognized institution and preferably registered as a Professional Engineer / Chartered Engineer
- Conversant with relevant international standards and Codes or Practice
- Strong knowledge of offshore instrumentation systems and hazardous area requirements.
- Experience with DCS, ESD, F&G, and PLC-based control systems.
- Familiarity with instrumentation design software and document control systems.
- Understanding of offshore installation practices and environmental constraints
