Roles & Responsibilities

Chartering:

  • Negotiate and secure spot fixtures and long-term shipping arrangements to meet cargo shipment requirements across destination markets in a timely and cost-effective manner.
  • Negotiate spot fixtures and Contracts of Affreightment (COAs) and Time Charter arrangement to optimize freight economics, maximize commercial returns and support company trading objectives.
  • Evaluate, negotiate and administer Charter Party agreements, including Voyage Charter, COA and Rime Charter contracts ensuring commercially favorable terms while minimizing operational and contractual risks.
  • Monitor freight market developments, vessel availability and market trends to support strategic freight procurement and enhance chartering performance.
  • Keep up to date on the terms and conditions relating to maritime industries and on current practice, especially matters related to edible oil industry.
  • Support all pre fixture operations including the following:
  • Provide operations team with the details on vessel ETA and itinerary to plan for cargo readiness and liaise with master on stowage plans/ questionnaires/ trading certs for vessel clearance.
  • Keep abreast of the latest development in the current industry and monitor market trends and assess viability of possible business opportunities and provide recommendations to management for further course of action.
  • Establish and maintain good relationships with ship owners and ship brokers on daily fixture matters.
  • Provide freight market information and obtain vessel indications and check vessel availability and freight rates for the group and trading requirements as well as provide report on freight rate and fixtures concluded.
  • Support all post fixture operations including monitoring the negotiation and counter for demurrage claims and demurrage disputes and all freight claims for loss, damage and overcharges.
  • Ensure the issuance of freight invoices by Ship Owners are in accordance with Charter Party and freight payments to Owners are within the due date and as per the freight payment terms stipulated in the Charter parties or fixture notes.
  • Ensure processing payments to service providers and entry in system.

Disputes & Claims (Legal):

  • Review and examine all claims received from Ship Owners and prepare relevant counter claims based on the prevailing practice and technical terms which underline the marine claims.
  • Present practical approach in handling such claims with relevant examples and highlighting appropriate responses and procedures.
  • Resolve common and complex deliveries, disputes and claims with Ship Owners.
  • Handle legal matters and all types of claims with in-house legal department as well as liaising with external Law Firms and Protection & Indemnity Insurance Associations worldwide.

Projects:

  • Assist the Head of Chartering in handling any department projects or additional duties as and when required.
  • Actively participate in the development of the quality management system and engage in the process for continuous improvement of the Chartering department.

General / Others:

  • Report to the Head of Chartering on all operational activities.
  • Responsible for reporting and maintaining databases and records of all shipping matters
  • Any other ad-hoc duties as assigned.

Ideal Candidate

  • Bachelor's Degree in Maritime Studies, Shipping, Maritime Business, Logistics and Supply Chain or related discipline.
  • A master's degree / MBA in Maritime Business, Shipping, Logistics or a related field would be preferred.
  • Professional qualification in Maritime Business, Shipping or Chartering.
