Job Description
Position Title: Tax Manager
Department: Finance
Location: Glenmarie, Shah Alam, Selangor, Malaysia
Employment Type: Contract
Reporting To: CFO
Job Summary:
The Tax Manager is responsible for managing and overseeing the Company's tax affairs in Malaysia, ensuring full compliance with applicable Malaysian tax laws and regulations. The role will manage corporate tax, SST, withholding tax, transfer pricing, tax reporting, tax audits, and tax-related matters while supporting the business with effective tax planning and risk management.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Tax Compliance & Reporting
- Oversee the preparation and timely submission of corporate income tax returns, tax estimates, tax computations, SST returns, withholding tax filings, and other statutory tax submissions.
- Ensure compliance with requirements of the Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia (LHDN/IRBM), Royal Malaysian Customs Department (RMCD), and other relevant authorities.
- Monitor tax deadlines, payments, assessments, and correspondence with tax authorities.
- Review tax calculations, schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documentation prepared by the Finance team or external tax agents.
2. Corporate Tax & Tax Planning
- Manage the Company's corporate income tax matters and effective tax planning.
- Identify tax risks, opportunities, and potential areas for tax savings while ensuring compliance with applicable laws.
- Advise management and relevant departments on the tax implications of business transactions, investments, incentives, promotions, and other commercial activities.
- Monitor changes in Malaysian tax legislation and assess their impact on the Company.
3. SST & Indirect Tax
- Oversee the Company's SST compliance, including registration, tax treatment, reporting, and payment requirements.
- Provide tax advice on sales, purchases, imports, services, and other business transactions.
- Liaise with Customs and external advisors on SST-related matters.
4. Transfer Pricing & Cross-Border Tax
- Manage transfer pricing compliance and documentation for related-party transactions.
- Coordinate with Group/HQ Finance teams on intercompany transactions, management fees, royalties, service fees, and other cross-border arrangements.
- Review withholding tax implications of payments to overseas related parties and third parties.
- Support cross-border tax planning and ensure compliance with Malaysian tax requirements.
5. Tax Audit & Dispute Management
- Coordinate tax audits, investigations, and queries raised by LHDN/IRBM, Customs, or other authorities.
- Prepare responses, supporting documents, and explanations for tax authorities.
- Work closely with external tax advisors, auditors, and legal advisors on tax matters.
- Monitor tax assessments, disputes, appeals, and potential tax exposures.
6. Tax Governance & Internal Controls
- Establish and maintain appropriate tax processes, controls, and documentation.
- Ensure tax risks are properly identified, monitored, and reported to management.
- Maintain accurate and complete tax records and supporting documentation.
- Provide regular tax updates and reports to senior management and Group/HQ.
7. Business & Finance Support
- Partner with Finance, Accounting, Sales, Procurement, HR, Legal, and other departments on tax-related matters.
- Provide tax guidance for new business activities, contracts, dealer arrangements, employee benefits, and other commercial transactions.
- Support month-end and year-end tax accounting, including current and deferred tax calculations where applicable.
- Perform other finance and tax-related duties as assigned by management.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, or a related discipline.
- Professional qualification such as ACCA, CTIM, MIA, CPA, or equivalent is preferred.
- Minimum 4-5 years of relevant tax experience, preferably with experience in a multinational company, Big 4, or automotive/manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of Malaysian corporate income tax, SST, withholding tax, and transfer pricing.
- Experience handling LHDN/IRBM and Customs audits or tax investigations.
- Strong understanding of Malaysian tax legislation, regulations, and compliance requirements.
- Experience with cross-border and related-party transactions is an advantage.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
- Mandarin speaking, reading, and writing is mandatory to communicate effectively with China headquarters and Chinese-speaking stakeholders.
- Good command of English is required for business communication and documentation.
