Job Purpose
- Lead the conduct of investment and transaction risk assessment for the Group Lead and manage the day-to-day operations of risk team assigned to assist Investment and Asset Management (IAM) Able to strategies and drive the implementation of investment and fund management risk management framework, methodology, system and programs for the Group, which include obtaining buy in from relevant stakeholders.
Job Responsibilities
A) Internally - operations
- Review, recommend and enhance (where appropriate) Investment, Fund and Retail Risk Management's (known as IAM) roadmap, policy, framework, methodology and system. This include the establishment or enhance risk standards and process that are effective and efficient in identifying, preventing, detecting and mitigating risk incidences.
- Directing the operations of the IAM risk management framework as designed.
- Ensure an effective governance structure is maintained to manage risk at IAM Business Units.
- Ensure that the IAM and Group's Risks Management efforts are coordinated effectively by the Risk team.
- Provide on ongoing education and appropriate briefing and training to management. Review and enhance risk training programs required for Risk Champions and operational teams.
- Develop, review and enhance the Group wide a risk appetite and measurements that is tailored the Group's IAM industry (how much risk that can be taken).
- Review and assist Management and Operational teams, where required, to embed and integrated risk management into business processes and transactions entered are within the bounds of the approve risk appetite.
B) Externally Best Practice and Scan of Risk Environment
- Be aware of the current risk management best practices in the industry.
- Investigate and research emerging risks and trends in the industry advising CRICO, GMD or management where appropriate.
- Provide necessary feedback/briefing of the changes in the industry to CRICO/GMD/GMC/Board.
- Continuous improvement of IAM and Risk Management Framework, where applicable.
Risk Assessment Activities
Risk Identification:
- Design and enhance process in identifying processes within IAM and relevant areas of the Group which requires Risk input to ensure risk are identified on a timely basis.
- On a continuous basis, identify and analyze areas of potential risk to the assets, earning capacity, or success the Group.
- Provide quality challenge to the risk evaluated inherent and residual risk, impact and likelihood, and targeted risk. Work with operations to ensure results are practical and reflective of the risk faced.
- Lead risk workshops and or any risk identification programs.
- Be the key point person for risk department for IAM and a subject matter expert for investment, fund and related risk for the rest of the Group to coordinate and be aware of risk activities that are carried out by other functional department
- For new risk identified, to work with management/operations to ensure it mitigation activities are embedded into operation systems/processes.
Risk Updates:
- Review and ensure risk registers are updated and signed off by respective process/risk champions on a quarterly basis (or more frequently where risk profile changes significantly) - ensuring risks are identified, reviewed and assessed adequately. Provide quality challenge to the risk evaluated inherent and residual risk, impact and likelihood, and targeted risk. Work with operations to ensure results are practical and reflective of the risk faced.
- Conduct high level review threats on an annual basis in line with the latest/approved Strategy Blueprint, ensuring enterprise risks are identified, reviewed and assessed with risk treatment plans in place.
- Review the Risk Assessment for Major Proposal/ Investment/ Divestment initiatives as prepared by IAM, Strategy or Operational Units.
- Providing independent view/advice/feedback on key risk matters that need to be considered by CRICO, Senior Management and the Board.
- Timely escalation of risk matters or risk issues or disputes on risk matter to CRICO and GMD, where appropriate.
- Develop and/or enhance (for approval) the derivation of KRIs, collation of KRI data for IAM and the Group (where applicable) and report to Senior Management.
- Participate and contribute to Project, Operational, Strategy, SQM, CAPEX, etc. meetings, where required.
Risk Monitoring
Drive and manage the risk monitoring process for IAM and Strategy team.
- Review the validation conducted by risk team on key risk impacting the Group, including its mitigating strategies and ratings
- Perform and lead any other risk review or validation as required.
- Prepare and/or review the independent GRM validation report to CRICO for approval
Risk Reporting
- Review and/or finalize Group Risk reports or risk analysis on major proposal/ investment/ divestment initiatives on a timely basis that would be submitted for Group Management Committee, Group Investment Committee, RMC and/or Board for CRICO approval.
- Ensure the risk reporting timelines are set and compiled with by operational and functional teams
BCM
- Coordinate the development and enhancement of the Business Continuity Planning (BCP) for IAM.
- Liaise with Senior Management of IAM as to on-going effectiveness of BCP (Crafting and implementing BCP throughout the Company).
Risk Administration/ Operations (department role)
- Lead and manage the dedicated Risk resources to deliver mandate and agreed KPIs.
- Develop the annual risk plan with the risk team. Finalise risk annual plans post discussion with CRICO. Drive the implementation of the annual plan.
- Provide regular and timely update to CRICO on the status of risk management activities undertaken by the IAM Risk team.
- Assist in the development of GRM annual budget, and actual expenditures. Notify CRICO for any deviation to the approval budgets.
- Managed the IAM risk function:
- Ensuring each team member is assigned relevant task/scope with set timeline and expected delivery.
- Ensure team members execute their work in an objective and independent manner and assignments are carried out and ensure high quality standards, consistency and effectiveness in the reporting of all review issues and recommendations.
- Providing feedback (formal and informal) via performance evaluation, developmental needs and succession planning, to ensure continuity, consistency and enhancement of the teams functions and performance.
- Identify and ensure team members are adequately trained and certified.
- Provide the necessary information and support to Group Compliance Office team to ensure the Risk and Compliance Annual Plan and Programmes are executed on a timely manner.
Other Functions
- Assist and contribute to the establishment and maintenance of GRM communication, tools and facilitates using appropriate ERM methodologies, tools and techniques.
- Assist in the provision of advisory services to Departments/Operating Units to establish, maintain and continuously improve their risk management capabilities.
- Assist CRICO or Management to develop tools and system which support the risk environment. Manage and drive implementation of tool and systems.
- Assist CRICO in establishing clear working relationships with operation teams, so that there is no overlap or duplication of functions and responsibilities in managing risks and controls.
- Perform other duties as assigned, when required.
Education/ Professional Qualification
- At least 5 years in Investment and Fund Management experience.
- At least 3 years in current position (VPII or VP1).
- Real estate and risk related experience will be an added advantage.
- At least 8 years of overall work experience.
- Driven, analytical, good attention to detail and ability to work well independently and in a team environment
- Possess at least a Professional Degree/Certificate, Bachelor's degree, Post Graduate Degree
- Investment, Fund Management and Risk Governance related education will be an added advantage.
