The coverage sectors are GLIC, MOF (States), Government Agencies, Conglo & IMH, East Malaysia, Financial Sponsors, Real Estate, Consumer & Agriculture, TMT & Digital, Energy, Portfolio, Regional Japanese Desk, Chinese Desk and FAM & MNC.

Strategy & Planning

  • Define, develop and execute a immediate immediate annual budget plan and strategy for both Country Budget and Origination Budget as well as 5‑year business and coverage strategy and revenue growth plan for assigned client portfolios, aligned with Group Wholesale Banking and CIBC strategic priorities, in partnership with the Head of Client & Public Sector Coverage, Product Department Heads and Regional CIBC Heads.
  • Provide strategic leadership and direction to the coverage team, ensuring clear priorities, alignment of objectives and strong execution discipline across all strategic initiatives.
  • Lead and empower the team to execute account plans effectively, strong pipeline management and high‑quality origination ideas outcome, supported by close monitoring of budget performance, resource allocation and delivery against financial targets.
  • Take primary responsibility for marketing, originating, structuring and securing mandates from assigned client portfolios, with a strong focus on revenue sustainability for CIMB Group.
  • Originate new business themes, ideas and initiatives, at the country and regional levels, with the aim of delivering team revenue budgets and targets.
  • Drive client wallet share expansion through effective cross‑selling and bundling of CIMB Group's Wholesale products and services.
  • Build, deepen and sustain trusted senior‑level client relationships through active networking with C‑suite and key stakeholders, providing high‑quality advisory coverage and proactive client service to support long‑term franchise value.

Business Performance

  • Drive delivery of approved revenue and origination targets by providing senior oversight to coverage and deal teams across assigned client portfolios.
  • Act as Executive Sponsor for key client relationships, removing delivery constraints, guiding prioritisation and ensuring effective engagement at critical stages of origination and execution.
  • Ensure consistent conversion of pipeline to mandates and revenues, monitoring origination momentum, deal progress and execution quality across domestic and cross‑border transactions.
  • Provide governance oversight of mandated deals and client engagements, ensuring disciplined and timely execution ensuring revenue realization in on time.
  • Review and challenge business performance, address under‑performance and intervene where required to accelerate deal closure or resolve execution issues.
  • Promote cross‑country collaboration to enhance execution efficiency, maximise cross‑border revenue capture and institutionalise best practices across the franchise. Maintain strong awareness of market, macroeconomic and key industry developments to anticipate opportunities, shape cross‑regional and cross‑sector strategies.
  • Drive continuous improvement across products, processes and delivery frameworks, working closely with product partners to co‑create and enhance solutions, streamline workflows, strengthen execution discipline and support stronger origination and client outcomes.

People Management & Resource Planning

  • Lead, motivate and guide the team to deliver revenue and origination targets, fostering a high‑performance and accountable culture.
  • Build and sustain a strong, cohesive coverage team, developing sector, client and execution capabilities.
  • Drive a talent development, including formal succession planning, competency uplift, capability building and leadership development to ensure continuous developing of talents.
  • Coach and mentor key talents, supporting talent enhancement, succession planning and leadership development across the franchise.
  • Institutionalise best practices and knowledge sharing to strengthen coverage effectiveness and consistency.
  • Uphold and role‑model high standards of professionalism, governance and conduct, reinforcing CIMB Group's reputation with clients, regulators and internal stakeholders.

Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure full compliance with applicable regulatory requirements, CIMB policies and procedures, client mandates, Bank and departmental guidelines.
  • Provide oversight to ensure all sector activities and transactions are conducted in compliance with local and regional regulatory frameworks.
  • Act as senior accountability holder for regulatory and audit engagement, including compliance with requirements from regulators such as Securities Commissions, Bank Negara Malaysia, Bursa Malaysia and and external auditors.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree, or recognised professional qualification, in a relevant discipline such as Accounting, Finance, Business or Economics.
  • Minimum 15–20 years of progressive experience in corporate banking, investment banking or wholesale banking at established financial institutions, with demonstrated depth in client coverage, origination and structured transactions.
  • At least 7–10 years in senior leadership roles (e.g. Executive Director / Director / Managing Director) with direct accountability for revenue performance, client portfolios and coverage teams.
  • Proven track record of leading origination‑driven growth, including securing complex mandates, growing wallet share and delivering sustainable revenues across corporate and/or public sector clients.
  • Experience in managing C‑suite client relationships large or strategic client groups.
  • Demonstrated capability in cross‑border transactions, regional collaboration and matrix management, working closely with product, country and regional teams.
  • Strong exposure to regulatory and governance frameworks relevant to wholesale and investment banking in domestic and regional markets.

Technical/Functional skills

  • Deep understanding of corporate and investment banking solutions, with strong knowledge of applicable domestic and regional regulations.
  • Established market reputation and senior business network within the corporate and investment banking community, locally and regionally.
  • Proven track record of delivering revenue targets, originating business and driving product‑led solutions across client portfolios.
  • Ability to leverage regulatory, institutional and business relationships to anticipate market developments, shape opportunities and support growth in key markets and industries.
  • Strong capability to build and maintain long‑term strategic relationships within high‑potential client segments, acting as principal point of leadership engagement.
