We are looking for a technically robust and commercially minded Tax Manager to lead our Tax Services division. The role is focused on ensuring high-standard compliance, providing strategic tax advisory, and fostering deep-rooted client trust.
The successful candidate will manage a diverse portfolio of corporate and individual clients, drive the growth of the tax practice through proactive business development, and lead a high-performing team in a fast-paced professional services environment.
Key Responsibilities
1. Tax Compliance & Advisory Management
- Lead the end-to-end delivery of tax compliance services (Corporate Tax, Personal Tax, SST, and RPGT).
- Provide high-level tax advisory and planning to clients, including restructuring, cross-border transactions, and incentive applications.
- Review tax computations, returns, and submission documents to ensure technical accuracy and adherence to LHDN (IRB Malaysia) regulations.
- Manage tax audits and investigations, acting as the primary liaison with tax authorities.
2. Client Relationship & Portfolio Management
- Manage a portfolio of diverse clients, serving as the lead advisor for complex tax queries.
- Maintain high service standards through responsive communication and proactive tax health checks for clients.
- Build a reputation as a trusted technical expert, ensuring client retention through value-added insights.
3. Practice Growth & Business Development
- Identify opportunities to expand tax services within the existing client base and through external networking.
- Lead the preparation of tax proposals and pitches for new engagements.
- Monitor market trends and legislative changes to develop new service offerings (e.g., Transfer Pricing, E-Invoicing advisory).
- Contribute directly to the revenue targets and scalability of the Tax department.
4. Team Leadership & Talent Development
- Mentor and coach junior and senior tax associates, fostering technical excellence and professional growth.
- Manage resource allocation and workflow to ensure optimal team productivity and deadline management.
- Cultivate a culture of continuous learning regarding new tax laws and digital transformation in tax processes.
5. Governance, Quality & Risk Management
- Ensure all tax filings and advice comply with the latest statutory requirements and professional standards.
- Drive internal process improvements to enhance the efficiency of tax reporting and documentation.
- Mitigate risk by ensuring rigorous quality controls across all departmental outputs.
Performance Metrics
- Technical Accuracy: Zero-error rate in tax filings and compliance deadlines.
- Client Satisfaction: High retention rates and positive feedback on advisory value.
- Revenue Growth: Achievement of departmental growth and cross-selling targets.
- Team Performance: Skill progression and engagement levels of subordinates.
- Audit Success: Positive outcomes in LHDN audits and negotiations.
Professional Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Law.
- Professional qualification (e.g., CTIM, ACCA, MICPA, CPA Australia) is mandatory.
- Full membership with the Chartered Tax Institute of Malaysia (CTIM) or MIA is highly preferred.
Experience
- 5-10 years of tax experience, with a significant portion in a professional practice or agency.
- Proven track record in managing complex tax compliance and advisory projects.
- Strong experience in people management and leading a specialized technical team.
- Demonstrated ability in business development and client acquisition within the professional services sector.
